Cameron Winnett (born 7 January 2003) is a Welsh professional rugby union player who plays as a fullback for United Rugby Championship club Cardiff and the Wales national team. [1]

Club career

Cardiff

Winnett began playing with Treorchy RFC, and was part of the Cardiff Blues grade age teams, as part of the academy. Winnett also featured for Cardiff RFC while part of the Cardiff academy. [2]

Winnett was called into Cardiff's squad ahead of their European campaign. [3] He made his debut for Cardiff in the second round of the 2021–22 European Rugby Champions Cup against Harlequins, starting at fullback and scoring a try. [4] He made his URC debut against Benetton in the final match of the 2021–22 United Rugby Championship season. [5]

Ahead of the 2023–24 United Rugby Championship, Winnett signed a contract extension, transitioning into the first team squad. [6] Winnett signed a long-term extension on 16 January 2024. [7]

International career

Wales U20

Winnett was selected by Wales U20 for the 2022 Six Nations Under 20s Championship. [8] He made his debut against Ireland, at fullback, and featured in every match. Winnett remained in the squad for the 2022 U20 Summer Series, and started every match at fullback, as Wales made the final. [9] Winnett was selected again for the U20 side for the 2023 Six Nations Under 20s Championship, and once more started every match from fullback. [10]

Wales

In 2024, he was named in the Wales squad for the 2024 Six Nations Championship. [11] Winnett started at fullback against Scotland on 3 February 2024, making his international debut. [12]
