Canadian Cinema Editors (CCE) is a professional, educational and cultural association of film editors founded in 2007. [1] The bilingual non-profit organization promotes picture editing in television, film and new media. Central goals of the organization include showcasing achievements of Canadian picture editors to the world, bringing together fellow editors and assistant editors together at social events and screenings, and educating its members and the public in the art and science of picture editing. The Canadian Cinema Editors offers five types of membership levels: student, associate, regional associate, full, and lifetime. Applications to join as an associate member are open to all post-production professionals including picture editors, assistant editors, post-production supervisors and other film professionals interested in joining. Regional associate members receive a discount based on their place a residence. As of 2022, the regions qualifying for the discount include: Western Canada (Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba); Yukon, Northwest Territories & Nunavut; Quebec; Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland & Labrador). Current students enrolled in full time study or in a co-op work experience can apply for a student membership and receive a significant discount. [3] Full membership is offered to associate members who apply and qualify based on criteria such as: the quality of their achievements, their passion to the craft of editing and education of the craft to peers and students. Full Members must be sponsored by at least 2 current Full Members. A jury of peers votes on the application, based on a minimum of 60 hours of edited work and overall quality. Successful applicants may use the designation C.C.E. after their name. A lifetime membership is granted to an individual who has won a CCE lifetime achievement award. [4]

The CCE awards were introduced in 2011 as a way to celebrate the best editing in Canada. The first CCE awards ceremony was held at the Capital Theatre in Toronto on May 19th, 2011. Winners were announced in eight categories. [7]

EditCon is an annual conference organized by the CCE that celebrates the art of picture editing. The first EditCon was held on February 10th, 2018 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox. It was sold out to 150 guests. [15] Editcon has featured notable editor guests such as Michelle Tesoro, ACE, Wendy Hallam Martin, ACE, CCE, Jinmo Yang, ACE, Elísabet Ronaldsdóttir, ACE, Harry Yoon, ACE, and Dylan Tichenor, ACE. Since 2021, EditCon has moved to a hybrid virtual and in-person event. Prerecorded or live panels are presented online with virtual breakout rooms for smaller group discussions. An in-person event is held on the same day in multiple cities. In 2023, in-person events were held in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. [16]
The CCE offers workshops in conjunction with Centennial College in Toronto, LaSalle College in Vancouver, and Nova Scotia Community College in Halifax.
Recent workshops include Assistant Editing (with James Lawson or Paul Whitehead), Documentary Editing (with Ricardo Acosta, Michèle Hozer, or Kelly Morris), Drama Editing (with Matthew Hannam or Jeanne Slater), Reality Editing (with Jonathan Dowler), and Animation Editing (with Jamie Ebata and Dan Lee).
The CCE regularly holds panel discussions and screenings to educate regarding new post-production issues, and to promote editing as a primary creative force in television and film. Panels have included discussion of the RED camera and how it affects post production, the role of Post Production Supervisor (panelists included Gregor Hutchison, Rachel Sutherland, Adam Roberts, Doug Wilkinson, Julie Lawrence and Gary Mueller), and sound editing. Screenings, followed by questions and answers time with the editor include "Dead Ringers" (editor Ron Sanders, C.C.E.), "Cairo Time" (editor Teresa Hannigan, C.C.E.) and "District 9" (editor Julian Clarke, C.C.E.).
Founded in 1950, American Cinema Editors (ACE) is an honorary society of film editors who are voted in based on the qualities of professional achievements, their education of others, and their dedication to editing. Members use the post-nominal letters "ACE". The organization's "Eddie Awards" are routinely covered in trade magazines such as The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. The society is not an industry union, such as the I.A.T.S.E., to which an editor might also belong. The current President of ACE is Kevin Tent, who was elected in 2020.
Carol Sue Littleton, ACE is an American film editor. Her work includes Body Heat (1981), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), The Big Chill (1983), Places in the Heart (1984), Silverado (1985), The Accidental Tourist (1988), and Wyatt Earp (1994). She won the Primetime Emmy Award for the ABC movie Tuesdays with Morrie (1999). In 2023 it was announced she would receive the Academy Honorary Award.
The Canadian Screen Award for Best Achievement in Art Direction/Production Design is awarded by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to the best Canadian film art direction/production design.
The Canadian Screen Award for Best Costume Design is awarded by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to the best Canadian costume designer. It was formerly called the Genie Award for Best Achievement in Costume Design before the Genies were merged into the Canadian Screen Awards.

The Alienist is an American period drama television series based on the 1994 novel of the same name by Caleb Carr. The ten-episode limited series first aired on TNT as a sneak peek on January 21, 2018, before its official premiere on January 22, 2018, airing until March 26, 2018. The series stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, and Dakota Fanning as an ad hoc team assembled in mid-1890s New York City to investigate a serial killer who is murdering street children. The series incorporates fact with fiction by including the characters that are historical figures, such as Theodore Roosevelt, who held the post of police commissioner from 1895 to 1897. On August 16, 2018, TNT ordered a sequel series based upon the 1997 follow-up novel The Angel of Darkness. The second season, titled The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, premiered on July 19, 2020, and aired through August 9, 2020.
Bernard Gariépy Strobl is a Canadian re-recording sound mixer, best known internationally as the supervising re-recording mixer of Arrival (2016), for which he won the BAFTA Award for Best Sound and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing. He has been a re-recording mixer on many prominent Quebec films of the last two decades, including The Red Violin (1998), C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005), Monsieur Lazhar (2011), War Witch (2012), Gabrielle (2013), and Endorphine (2015).
Patricia McNeil is a Canadian costume designer and production designer. She is a three-time winner of the Canadian Screen Award for Best Costume Design, for the films Nelly, The Great Darkened Days and The Twentieth Century, and a winner of the Canadian Screen Award for Best Art Direction/Production Design for The Great Darkened Days.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television's Award for Best Short Documentary is an annual Canadian film award, presented to a film judged to be the year's best short documentary film. Prior to 2012 the award was presented as part of the Genie Awards program; since 2012 it has been presented as part of the expanded Canadian Screen Awards.
Zombies 2 is a 2020 American musical and dance Disney Channel Original Movie that premiered on Disney Channel on February 14, 2020. A sequel to the 2018 Disney Channel Original Movie Zombies, the film stars Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly, and features Trevor Tordjman, Kylee Russell, and Carla Jeffery reprising their roles from the first movie, with Chandler Kinney, Pearce Joza, and Baby Ariel joining the cast. The film shows the zombies and cheerleaders, who have mostly since reconciled from the events of the first film, attempting to coexist and assimilate werewolves into the town of Seabrook.

Ziva Postec: The Editor Behind the Film Shoah is a Canadian documentary film, directed by Catherine Hébert and released in 2018. The film is a portrait of Ziva Postec, an Israeli film editor most noted for her work on the 1985 Holocaust documentary film Shoah.
Arthur Tarnowski is a Canadian film and television editor. He is most noted as a three-time Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Editing, receiving nominations at the 3rd Canadian Screen Awards in 2015 for Henri Henri, at the 7th Canadian Screen Awards in 2019 for The Hummingbird Project, and at the 9th Canadian Screen Awards in 2021 for The Decline .
The American Cinema Editors Award for Best Edited Miniseries or Motion Picture for Television is one of the annual awards given by the American Cinema Editors. It has evolved throughout the history of the American Cinema Editors Awards, narrowing it's eligibility field numerous times.
Yvann Thibaudeau is a Canadian film editor. He is most noted as a two-time Prix Jutra/Iris winner for Best Editing, winning at the 11th Jutra Awards in 2009 for Borderline and at the 21st Quebec Cinema Awards in 2019 for 1991.
Sophie Leblond is a Canadian film editor. She is most noted for her work on the films Soft Shell Man , for which she won the Jutra Award for Best Editing at the 4th Jutra Awards in 2002, and Alexander Odyssey , for which she won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Editing in a Documentary at the 8th Canadian Screen Awards in 2020.
Roland Schlimme is a Canadian film editor known in particular for his work with filmmakers Peter Mettler and Jennifer Baichwal. He's also worked on several projects with artists Phillip Barker and Laura Taler as well as filmmakers Alison Murray and Cliff Caines.
