Carnivorous is a 2020 album by British space rock band Hawkwind, released under the name Hawkwind Light Orchestra. The album contains songs inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, [2] and has received positive reviews from critics.

Reception

Julian Marszalek of Classic Rock rated this album 3.5 out of 5 stars, summing up that "this is Hawkwind consolidating their strengths in the here and now". [2] At Louder Than War , Paul Clarke called Carnivorous a "delight" or "fans of the veteran space rockers". [3] In Prog , Joe Banks wrote that the first third of the album is the strongest, but the entire release has strong songs, with sounds similar to rave music and The Kinks. [4] Record Collector 's Rich Davenport rated this release 4 out of 5 stars, stating that "in the best Hawkwind tradition, the results are informed by current tribulations while offering absorbing musical escapism from same". [1]

The band released it under the name "Hawklords" for legal reasons, as there was a dispute over ownership of the name "Hawkwind" at the time. It reached No. 48 on the UK album charts. It was originally titled 25 Years On and the first 25000 were pressed as this until the band decided to simply call it Hawklords. Choose Your Masques: Collectors Series Volume 2 is a 2000 live album release of most of a pair of 1982 concerts by the English rock band Hawkwind. It was recorded during the winter 1982 tour at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, mostly on 12 November, with some tracks possibly from 13 November. The recording features a guest slot from Michael Moorcock on 12 November. Note the final actual set list, compared to the released double-CD, and all songs where Nik Turner's contribution could be removed, have been, almost certainly due to continuing legal wrangles.

By 2014, the band's lineup included Steve Rispin as their sound engineer, Jon Poole on bass and vocals, Martin "Frosty" Beedle on drums, percussion and vocals, and formerly Niko Tsonev on guitars and vocals. After Tsonev departed the band in 2016, Dave Bainbridge joined on guitar and additional keys. Beedle left the band in 2020 and was replaced by Zoltán Csörsz.
