Carolyn Anne Jakobsen (born 11 September 1947) is a former Australian politician. She served in the House of Representatives from 1984 to 1993,representing the Division of Cowan for the Australian Labor Party (ALP).
Jakobsen was born on 11 September 1947 in Auckland,New Zealand. [2] She did not renounce her New Zealand citizenship until January 1990,following media attention given to the parliamentary eligibility requirements of section 44(i) of the constitution. [1] Prior to entering parliament herself she worked as a political staffer. She was active in the Australian Labor Party (Western Australian Branch) and served as president of the ALP's Manning branch. [2]
Jakobsen was elected to the newly created Division of Cowan at the 1984 federal election. She was re-elected at the 1987 and 1990 elections before being defeated by the Liberal candidate Richard Evans at the 1993 election. [2]
In parliament,Jakobsen served on a number of standing and select committees. She was elected chair of the Australian Labor Party Caucus in 1990,the first woman to hold the position. She also led parliamentary delegations to New Zealand in 1988 and to Scandinavia in 1990. [2] Jakobsen was a member of the party's left faction. She opposed Australian involvement in the 1991 Gulf War,and was one of ten MPs censured by the ALP National Executive for walking out on a pro-war speech by Prime Minister Bob Hawke. [3]
Jakobsen has served on the Murdoch University senate,the Swan River Trust,the Waste Management Board,and the board of Waste Smart WA. [4]

Lang Labor was a faction of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) consisting of the supporters of Jack Lang,who served two terms as Premier of New South Wales and was the party's state leader from 1923 to 1939. The 45th Parliament of Australia was a meeting of the legislative branch of the Australian federal government,composed of the Australian Senate and the Australian House of Representatives. It met in Canberra from 30 August 2016 to 4 April 2019. The 2016 general election held on 2 July gave the Coalition of the Liberal and National Parties control of the House,albeit with a slimmer majority than the 44th Parliament,allowing their leader Malcolm Turnbull to stay in office as the 29th Prime Minister of Australia. During the term of the parliament,the government slipped into minority due to defections and by-elections. The leadership of the government also changed during the parliament,when Scott Morrison replaced Turnbull as Liberal Leader and Prime Minister in August 2018. The 45th Parliament was officially prorogued by the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove at 8:29 a.m. on 11 April 2019,and the House of Representatives dissolved at 8:30 a.m.
The Western Australian Labor Party,officially known as the Australian Labor Party (Western Australian Branch) and commonly referred to simply as WA Labor,is the Western Australian branch of the Australian Labor Party. It is the current governing party of Western Australia since winning the 2017 election under Mark McGowan.
