History

Located outside Birr, County Offaly, Carrig & Riverstown GAA Club is geographically located in County Tipperary. The club was founded in 1933 and had always been affiliated to the Offaly County Board. [1] The club has spent most of its existence operating in the junior grade, winning their first two Offaly JHC titles in 1946 and 1955. [2] This was followed by an Offaly IHC title in 1958 and senior status for the first time. [3] Further JHC titles were won in 1971, 1979 and 1995 before winning two more IHC titles in 1996 and 2023. [4]

Benjamin O’Connor, known as Bernie O'Connor, is an Irish former hurler and manager. As a player he lined out with Meelin, before later serving as a coach and manager, most notably with Newtownshandrum.

Liam Doyle is an Irish hurling coach and former player. At club level he played with Bodyke and at inter-county level with the Clare senior hurling team. Doyle later served as a manager and selector.

Ger Oakley is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Carrig & Riverstown and was a member of the Offaly senior inter-county team from 1997 to 2010. Oakley retired from inter-county hurling in late 2010 to concentrate more on farming.

The 2023–24 All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship was the 20th staging of the All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's junior inter-county club hurling tournament. The Offaly Senior B Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Offaly County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association from 2018 for the second tier senior hurling teams in the county of Offaly in Ireland.

The 2021 Offaly Senior B Hurling Championship was the fourth staging of the Offaly Senior B Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Offaly County Board. The group stage fixtures were confirmed on 27 May 2021. The championship ran from 28 August to 20 November 2021.

Cathal King is an Irish hurler. At club level he plays with Carrig & Riverstown and at inter-county level with the Offaly senior hurling team.
