Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon

The Carver Wolverhampton Marathon is an annual marathon that is part of a series of events which constitute the Carver Marathon City Marathon Events. The other events occurring at the same time as the marathon include the Carver Wolverhampton Half Marathon, Banks's Run, Children's Run and a cycling event. The marathon is held in Wolverhampton, England, in September each year. The main purpose of these events is to raise money for charity.

The marathon was first organized in 1998 by the late Roy Carver and Ian Savage, then Carver's Groups Sales Director. [1]

The six categories cater to different participants. They are the Marathon (42.195 km), Half Marathon (21.097 km), Banks's Run (10 km), Cycling Event ( 20 km ), and the Children's Run. All events start and finish on Park Road West. The route consists of closed roads, open roads, paths and cycleways, and controlled roads. [2] An estimated of 2,300 people participated in 2014. [3] The event organizer is Neil Kendrick. [4]

In 2018 the full Marathon was not run due to a lack of participants. [5]

Charity

The Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon focuses mainly on supporting local charities. [14] [15] In total since 1998 the marathon events have raised in excess of £300.000. Charities supported in the last 4 years include:

The Great Bristol Half Marathon is an annual road running event held on the streets of Bristol, UK. The route is at sea level and starts on Anchor Road outside We The Curious. Participants make their way toward Hotwells before heading under the Clifton Suspension Bridge and along the Portway toward Sea Mills before returning the same way then navigating around Cumberland Basin then along Spike Island before crossing Prince Street Bridge, circling Queen Square then heading to Castle Park via St Mary Redcliffe and Temple Circus. The final mile and a half take place in the Old City and Bristol city centre before crossing the finish line back at Anchor Road.

The Sheffield Half Marathon is an annual half marathon held in Sheffield, England. It was started as a marathon in 1929 for two years, with a half marathon run at the same time. It restarted again 1946 after the Second World War. In 2003 it was reduced to a half marathon and 3-kilometre fun run. Moving from Hillsborough in 1991, the race started and finished at Don Valley Stadium, the stadium where Jessica Ennis trained, until the stadium's closure was announced in 2013. The race is gold graded by UK Athletics.
