Fleet is a town and civil parish in the Hart district of Hampshire, England, centred 36 miles (58 km) WSW of London and 10 miles (16 km) east of Basingstoke. It is part of and the major town of Hart District, and has large technology business areas, fast rail links to London and is well connected to the UK motorway network. The 2011 population for its built up area, including attached suburbs Church Crookham, Dogmersfield, Elvetham Heath and Ancells Farm was 38,726. The town has a prominent golf club, an annual half marathon, athletics club and four football clubs.

The Bath Half Marathon is an annual road running half marathon held in Bath, England, normally on the second or third Sunday in March. Ryan Hall is a retired American long-distance runner who holds the U.S. record in the half marathon. With his half marathon record time (59:43), he became the first U.S. runner to break the one-hour barrier in the event. He is also the only American to run a sub-2:05 marathon. The Santa Barbara International Marathon and Half Marathon is an annual race that takes place in Goleta, California and Santa Barbara, California. The inaugural race was on December 6, 2009. For the last five years the Santa Barbara City College has been the official host for the finish line and general operations. Rusty and June Snow are the co-directors of the race with Dan Campbell as the technical director. The Snow's moved from the East Coast and wanted to bring a marathon to Santa Barbara. After a few years of getting the race approved and organized it was finally set to happen in 2009, Rusty Snow states, “I learned to be stubborn from running marathons.” The Santa Barbara International Marathon course serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier.

The Paddock Wood Half Marathon is an annual road running event held in Paddock Wood, Kent, United Kingdom. The Brass Monkey Half Marathon is an annual road running event held outside York, United Kingdom. The event is organised by the York Knavesmire Harriers club and has been run since the early 1980s. In the early years the event was a contest for club runners but has expanded over its three decades attracting some of the country’s elite runners, these include Olympians Angela Tooby-Smith and Tracey Morris, and international ultra-runner Carolyn Hunter-Rowe. Ann Ford is an English former middle and long-distance runner. She finished in the top ten at five IAAF World Cross Country Championships, including fourth-place finishes in 1974 and 1976. She also won a World Cross Country Championship team gold medal in 1974 and a bronze medal in 1979 and 1982. She was also a team winner at the International Cross Country Championships in 1972.

The 2008 IAAF Road Race Label Events were the inaugural edition of the global series of road running competitions given Label status by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). All five World Marathon Majors had Gold Label status. The races were mostly in North America, Western Europe, and East Asia. It was the first year that the IAAF had provided the race designation. The series included a total of 49 road races, 12 Gold and 37 Silver Label status. In terms of distance, 32 races were marathons, 8 were half marathons, 6 were 10K runs, and 3 were held over other distances.
The 2015 IAAF Road Race Label Events were the eighth edition of the global series of road running competitions given Label status by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). All six World Marathon Majors had Gold Label status. The series included a total of 88 road races: 43 Gold, 27 Silver and 18 Bronze. In terms of distance, 55 races were marathons, 18 were half marathons, 10 were 10K runs, and 5 were held over other distances.
