Las Cruces is the second-most populous city in the U.S. state of New Mexico and the seat of Doña Ana County. As of the 2020 census the population was 111,385. Las Cruces is the most populous city in both Doña Ana County and southern New Mexico. The Las Cruces metropolitan area had an estimated population of 213,849 in 2017. It is the principal city of a metropolitan statistical area which encompasses all of Doña Ana County and is part of the larger El Paso–Las Cruces combined statistical area with a population of 1,088,420 making it the 56th largest combined statistical area in the United States.
New Mexico State University is a public land-grant research university in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Founded in 1888, it is the state's oldest public institution of higher education, and the state's first land-grant institution in New Mexico. NMSU has campuses in Alamogordo, Doña Ana County, and Grants, as well as research centers and programs in all 33 counties in the state.

The school is divided into five academies housed at two separate campuses, each of which has its own academy leaders and administrative team. The athletic teams are known as the Reynoldsburg Raiders, and the school colors are purple and gold. Reynoldsburg High School was established in 1870. The Livingston Campus opened in 1961, followed by the Summit Campus in 2011.
The Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT) is a four-year countywide vocational public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades from Atlantic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, as part of the Atlantic County Vocational School District. ACIT is located on a 58-acre (230,000 m2) campus in the Mays Landing area of Hamilton Township. The school was constructed in 1974 and underwent a major renovation in 1994 and 2009-2011.
J. M. Hanks High School, commonly referred to as Hanks High School, is one of seven public secondary schools in Ysleta Independent School District, which encompasses much of east El Paso, Texas. Hanks' primary feeder school is J.M. Hanks Middle School. Additionally, many students from nearby Eastwood Middle School go on to attend Hanks High School.
Volcano Vista High School (VVHS) is a public senior high school located on the West Mesa of Albuquerque, New Mexico within the Albuquerque Public Schools District; 2014 enrollment is 2,300. The school opened in August 2007 to 9th grade students, adding 10th and 11th grades in August 2008, and 12th grade in August 2009. The first students graduated in May 2010. School colors are black, white and platinum and their mascot is the Hawks. The specific breed of hawk is cited to be a Redtail Hawk, as displayed in the school's main corridor.

Juarez-Lincoln, a Texas UIL Class 5A high school, is named after two presidents: Benito Juarez of Mexico, and Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States. The school is home to students that live on the central and north side of La Joya ISD. It is known as Zone 2 in LJISD's maps.

Doña Ana Community College is a public community college with several campuses in Doña Ana County, New Mexico. It was established in 1973 at the request of the Gadsden, Hatch, and Las Cruces school boards to provided vocational and technical education opportunities to the citizens of Doña Ana County. It is independently accredited by The Higher Learning Commission. The community college offers instruction leading to associate degrees and technical certificates and preparation for further academic work. It is a branch of New Mexico State University. Doña Ana Community College has six campuses, with three in Las Cruces, and one each in Anthony, Sunland Park, and Chaparral. Dual credit classes are also offered in conjunction with local high schools.
Arrowhead Park Early College High School and Medical Academy is a high school in Las Cruces, New Mexico. It is the newest high school inside Doña Ana County. The school specializes in graduating its students with at least a two-year college degree. The school opened in July 2010 and has 311 students as of most current data. There is a 26.92 student/teacher ratio. It is a part of Las Cruces Public Schools.
