The Chair of the Senate of Kazakhstan (Kazakh : Сенатының Төрағасы) is the head of the upper house of the Parliament of Kazakhstan who is responsible for opening sessions, preside over regular and extraordinary joint meetings. [1] The post was created on 30 January 1996 at the first newly Senate session opening after the 1995 Kazakh constitutional referendum which was held in 30 August 1995 that formed the Senate of Kazakhstan. [2]

Kassym-Jomart Kemeluly Tokayev is a Kazakh politician and diplomat who has served as the President of Kazakhstan since 2019. Between 20 March and 12 June 2019, he served as acting president after the resignation of Nursultan Nazarbayev, who had been president for nearly three decades.
The Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the bicameral legislature of Kazakhstan. The lower house is the Mäjilis, with 98 seats which are elected to five-year terms. The upper house is the Senate, which has 50 members.
Dariga Nursultanqyzy Nazarbayeva is a Kazakh businesswoman and politician who is the daughter of Nursultan Nazarbayev who was the President of Kazakhstan from 1990 to 2019. She was a member of the Mäjilis from 2004 to 2007, 2012 to 2015 and 2021 to 2022. She was Deputy Chairwoman of Mäjilis from 2014 to 2015 until being appointed as a Deputy Prime Minister under Massimov's cabinet. She was a member of the Kazakh Senate from 2016 to 2020, serving as Senate Chairwoman from 2019 to 2020. She is one of the richest women in Kazakhstan.

The Supreme Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was a unicameral legislative branch in Kazakhstan that existed from 1993 to 1995. The Supreme Council succeeded the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR after the new Constitution of Kazakhstan was adopted on 28 January 1993. During this period, the Supreme Council had its members elected in the 1994 Kazakh legislative election which was held for the first time in post-Soviet Kazakhstan. It existed to function until its dissolution on 11 March 1995 by a Presidential Decree after the Constitutional Court of Kazakhstan ruled in the favor Kazakhstani journalist Tatyana Kvyatkovskaya to nullify the results of the 1994 legislative election which she accused of being fraudulent. The Supreme Council was eventually replaced by the Parliament of Kazakhstan in 1996 which was established after the 1995 Kazakh constitutional referendum.

Ömirbek Bäigeldi was a Kazakh politician who was a member of the Senate of Kazakhstan where he served as the Chair from 30 January 1996 to 29 November 1999 and then its Deputy Chair from 1 December 1999 to 1 December 2005. Baigeldi had earlier been the Head of the Jambyl Region from 1992 to 1995.

The post was formed on 30 January 1996 at the first parliamentary session opening after the 1995 constitutional referendum which was held in August 1995 where majority of Kazakh voters approved of the new constitution which created a bicameral legislature that included the lower chamber Mäjilis.
The Deputy Chair of the Senate of Kazakhstan is a post in the upper house of the Parliament which is the Senate of Kazakhstan. The Deputy Chair is nominated by the Senate Chair who are then elected by the Senators. The post was established on 30 January 1996 and since the constitutional amendments in May 2007, the office has been occupied by two people at the same time. The Deputy Chair carries out tasks made by Senate Chair and responsibilities if the chair isn't able to fulfill them.
