Carel Bernardus Dankmeijer, known as Charles (1861-1923) was a Dutch painter; best known for his colorful cityscapes and river scenes.
He took his first drawing lessons at the Felix Meritis Society of Amsterdam. In 1881, he went to Antwerp, where he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts with Charles Verlat and won the "Prix d'Excellence". From 1882 to 1886, he was enrolled at the Rijksakademie. His professors there were August Allebé and Barend Wijnveld. He then joined the artists' colony in Laren, and came under the influence of Anton Mauve. [1]
After Mauve's death, he returned to Amsterdam and was married. For many years after that, he moved frequently; living in The Hague, Loosduinen, Zaandam, Renkum (where he worked with Théophile de Bock), Oosterbeek, Leiden and, finally, Scheveningen. This was interspersed with travels to France and Italy. In 1900, he won a medal at the Exposition Universelle. [1]
A slightly eccentric man, it was said that you could tell what colors were on his palette from the stains on his jacket. When inspired, he often walked through town so lost in thought that he would not even recognize his friends. [2]

The Hague School is a group of artists who lived and worked in The Hague between 1860 and 1890. Their work was heavily influenced by the realist painters of the French Barbizon school. The painters of the Hague school generally made use of relatively somber colors, which is why the Hague School is sometimes called the Gray School.

Jan Pieter Veth was a Dutch painter, poet, art critic and university lecturer. He is especially noted as a portrait painter. Amongst his sitters were Max Liebermann, Lambertus Zijl, Frank van der Goes, Antoon Derkinderen and other contemporaries including various fellow painters.
Jan van de Cappelle was a Dutch Golden Age painter of seascapes and winter landscapes, also notable as an industrialist and art collector. He is "now considered the outstanding marine painter of 17th century Holland". He lived all his life in Amsterdam, and as well as working as an artist spent much, or most, of his time helping to manage his father Franchoy's large dyeworks, which specialized in the expensive dye carmine, and which he eventually inherited in 1674. Presumably because of this dual career, there are fewer than 150 surviving paintings, a relatively small number for the industrious painters of the Dutch Golden Age. His marine paintings usually show estuary or river scenes rather than the open sea, and the water is always very calm, allowing it to act as a mirror reflecting the cloud formations above; this effect was Cappelle's speciality.
Johannes Evert Hendrik Akkeringa was part of the second generation of the Hague School painters. Akkeringa is primarily known for his paintings and watercolours of women and playing children at the beach, women mending nets and intimate tea-time conversations.
Herman Heijenbrock, was a Dutch writer, painter, pastel draughtsman, and lithographer. He founded the "Museum van den Arbeid" in 1923, which later became NEMO Science Museum.
Johannes Albert Neuhuys was one of the best known painters of the Laren School and a friend of many of the Hague School painters.
August Allebé (1838–1927) was a 19th-century artist and teacher from the Northern Netherlands. His early paintings were in a romantic style, but in his later work he was an exponent of realism and impressionism. He was a major initiator and promoter of Amsterdam Impressionism, the artist's association St. Lucas, and the movement of the Amsterdamse Joffers. Amsterdam Impressionism – sometimes referred to by art historians as the School of Allebé – was the counterflow to the very strong Hague School in the movement of Dutch Impressionism. As a professor at the Royal Academy of Amsterdam he fostered a cosmopolitan attitude toward art and the promotion and motivation of his students, and provided a significant stimulus to developments in modern art.
Jacob Simon Hendrik Kever, known as Hein was a Dutch genre and still-life painter; associated with the Laren School.
Evert Pieters was a Dutch painter, known primarily for landscapes and interiors.
Sigisbert Chrétien Bosch Reitz, known as Gijs (1860-1938) was a Dutch painter in the Impressionist and Symbolist styles. He was also associated with the Laren School.
The Laren School is the name of an art colony located in the Dutch village, Laren, in Het Gooi near Hilversum. The artists of this offshoot of the Hague School chose the inhabitants of Laren and the surrounding landscape as the subject of their art.
Ahazueros Jacobus Breman, known as Co was a Dutch painter. He specialized in landscapes, farms and interior scenes, with figures, and was one of the first Pointillist painters in the Netherlands.
Franz Wilhelm Maria Deutmann was a Dutch painter and photographer. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae and is considered to be part of the Laren School, an offshoot of the Hague School, which is an independent part of the international movement of impressionism.

Simon Moulijn was a Dutch painter, draughtsman and graphic artist. He was one of the eminent visual artists of his time and became especially well known for his lithographic works.
