Charles Pasi (born 8 February 1984 in Paris) is a French singer-songwriter and harmonica player. [1]
Born to an Italian father and a French mother, Charles Pasi grew up in Paris and was influenced early on by Ray Charles, Little Richard, and Percy Sledge. Without a particular desire to become a musician, he joined a gospel choir at 17 and discovered the harmonica by listening to Bob Dylan and Neil Young. [2] [3]
The harmonica is an anti-hero, with a bit of an outsider side to music. It’s not something you learn at the conservatory! And it has this playful aspect, like a toy. It suited me perfectly, kind of like my alter ego, since I wasn’t a star student!
After his baccalauréat, he studied at the Saint Louis Jazz School in Rome and then returned to Paris to take courses at the CIM jazz school and the Atla School. [4] [5]
In Rome, he played with the band Mood in Black and then earned his first fees in Parisian bistros. [6] [2]
In 2005, Charles Pasi won the electro-acoustic prize at the Blues sur Seine national competition and the prize at the FestiBlues International Montreal. [4]
In 2006, he released a blues EP, Mainly Blue, in English, which he self-produced. [6]
English allows me to be sincere, to reach the depth of my thoughts. In French, I tend to search for words, refinement, and that doesn’t necessarily create the most beautiful images. For now, I don’t feel capable of writing in French; I have the temptation to sweeten my feelings
He participated in various festivals, including the Memphis International Blues Challenge, where he was a finalist, and then began an international tour (United States, Canada, Russia, Hungary, Benelux, Italy, Spain...) [4] He contributed to the soundtracks of the films Actresses by Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and Cineman by Yann Moix. [7] Carla Bruni engaged him for her albums No Promises and Comme si de rien n'était and as a guitarist on her tour. [8] [6]
In 2009, he released his second EP Uncaged. Charles Pasi won the Zimbalam competition at Printemps de Bourges, allowing for the digital distribution of the EP through Believe Recordings. In 2017, Pasi released the album Ceci est la musique, with an eclectic style ranging from blues to chanson and soul. [15] He released a new album Elle in 2020, which was described as an album that mixes blues, jazz, and soul. [16]
Alexis Andrew Nicholas Koerner, known professionally as Alexis Korner, was a British blues musician and radio broadcaster, who has sometimes been referred to as "a founding father of British blues". A major influence on the sound of the British music scene in the 1960s, he was instrumental in the formation of several notable British bands including The Rolling Stones and Free. Korner was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the musical influence category in 2024.
Stevland Hardaway Morris, known professionally as Stevie Wonder, is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. One of the most acclaimed and influential musicians of the 20th century, he is credited as a pioneer and influence by musicians across a range of genres that include R&B, pop, soul, gospel, funk, and jazz. A virtual one-man band, Wonder's use of synthesizers and other electronic musical instruments during the 1970s reshaped the conventions of contemporary R&B. He also helped drive such genres into the album era, crafting his LPs as cohesive and consistent, in addition to socially conscious statements with complex compositions. Blind since shortly after his birth, Wonder was a child prodigy who signed with Motown's Tamla label at the age of 11, where he was given the professional name Little Stevie Wonder.
Soul jazz or funky jazz is a subgenre of jazz that incorporates strong influences from hard bop, blues, soul, gospel and rhythm and blues. Soul jazz is often characterized by organ trios featuring the Hammond organ and small combos including saxophone, brass instruments, electric guitar, bass, drums, piano, vocals and electric organ. Its origins were in the 1950s and early 1960s, with its heyday with popular audiences preceding the rise of jazz fusion in the late 1960s and 1970s. Prominent names in fusion ranged from bop pianists including Bobby Timmons and Junior Mance to a wide range of organists, saxophonists, pianists, drummers and electric guitarists including Jack McDuff, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, and Grant Green.
Jean-Baptiste Frédéric Isidor, Baron Thielemans, known professionally as Toots Thielemans, was a Belgian jazz musician. He was mostly known for playing the chromatic harmonica, as well as his guitar and whistling skills, and composing. According to jazz historian Ted Gioia, his most important contribution was in "championing the humble harmonica", which Thielemans made into a "legitimate voice in jazz". He eventually became the "preeminent" jazz harmonica player.

William Clarke was an American blues harmonica player and singer. Clarke was a master of both cross and chromatic harmonica styles and many consider him among the blues harmonica greats.

His ability to play chromatic scales on a diatonic harmonica gives him access to twice as many notes as the instrument is designed to deliver.

He previously released an extended play in 2006, titled Ceux qui dorment les yeux ouverts. During his career he has worked with several international artists such as Sia, Pitbull, Lil Wayne, Stromae, Maluma, Sting, and others. He has sold over 5 million records, including 3 million albums since the start of his career. He started his solo career in 2013 with the release of his first album, Subliminal in May on Wati B and Monstre Marin Corporation, which sold over a million copies and peaked at number two in the French album charts. In December he released a reissue titled Subliminal la face cachée. The album contained songs such as "J'me tire", "Bella" and "Zombie". From its first week of operation, the album certified platinum and would end up being double diamond disc for over 1 million in sales. The album was a great success charting in France, Belgium as well as charting in Switzerland.
