Cheryl Baldwin Turpin (born 1963) is an American politician who served as the delegate in the Virginia House of Delegates for the 85th district representing a part of Virginia Beach from 2018 to 2020. She is a member of the Democratic Party.
Turpin was born at Womack Hospital in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in 1963 to George and Patricia Baldwin. [1] She grew up in a military family that eventually settled in Fairfax County, Virginia. [2] She has worked as a science teacher in Virginia Beach, most recently teaching at Frank W. Cox High School where she teaches Advanced Placement Environmental Science.[ citation needed ]
She won the general election to the Virginia House of Delegates for the 85th district held on November 7, 2017, to succeed Rocky Holcomb, whom she had lost to in a special election earlier in the year. [3] In March 2019, Turpin declared her candidacy for the Senate of Virginia's 7th district after state senator Frank Wagner announced his retirement. [4] She won the June 11 primary with 58% of the vote. [5] In the November 2019 general election, Turpin lost to Republican Jen Kiggans by about a 1% margin. [6]

Virginia's second congressional district is a U.S. congressional district in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It currently encompasses all of Accomack, Northampton, and Isle of Wight; all of the independent cities of Virginia Beach, Suffolk, and Franklin; part of the independent city of Chesapeake; and part of Southampton. However, its boundaries have changed greatly over the centuries; it initially encompassed what became West Virginia after the American Civil War. It is considered among the nation's most competitive congressional districts.
Frank W. Wagner is an American politician. A Republican, he served in the Virginia House of Delegates 1992–2001, and was elected to the Senate of Virginia in a special election on December 19, 2000. He represented the 7th district in Virginia Beach and Norfolk from 2001 until 2019. He was a member of the Commerce and Labor, General Laws and Technology, Rehabilitation and Social Services, and Transportation committees.

The 2022 United States House of Representatives elections in Virginia were held on November 8, 2022, to elect the 11 U.S. representatives from the state of Virginia, one from each of the state's 11 congressional districts. The elections coincide with other elections to the House of Representatives. Pursuant to state law, primaries organized through the Department of Elections were held on June 21, 2022. However, some Republican firehouse primaries were held on dates as late as May 21, 2022.
The Virginia Beach mayoral election of 2020 took place on November 3, 2020. Voters elected the next Mayor of Virginia Beach, which has a council-manager system of government. The mayor presides over city council meetings and serves as the ceremonial head and spokesperson of the city. The mayor is elected to a four-year term through a direct election and the office has no term limits. The mayoral election occurred simultaneously with the election of four seats on the city council. These elections were nonpartisan, as are all municipal elections in Virginia Beach.
The 2020 elections for members of the Virginia Beach City Council were held on November 3, 2020. Five seats on the council, including the Mayor of Virginia Beach in the 2020 Virginia Beach mayoral election, were up for election in this cycle. While officially nonpartisan, most of the candidates were affiliated with and endorsed by various political parties.
The 2022 West Virginia Senate elections were held on November 8, 2022, and elected 17 of the chamber's 34 members. This coincided with elections in the House of Delegates, and the election of West Virginia's two representatives. Following the 2020 census, this was the first West Virginia Senate election held after redistricting. Primary elections were held on May 10, 2022.
The 2023 Virginia Senate election is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, concurrently with elections for the Virginia House of Delegates, to elect senators to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 163rd and 164th Virginia Assembly. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections are to be held June 20, 2023. These will be the first elections held following redistricting as a result of the 2020 census.
The 2023 Virginia elections will take place on November 7, 2023. All 40 seats of the Virginia Senate and 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates will be up for election, as are many local offices.
On January 10, 2023, voters in the 7th district of the Virginia Senate voted in a special election to fill the seat left vacant by Republican Jen Kiggans, the previous incumbent, who had resigned on January 3, 2023, after having being elected to Congress the preceding November. New state legislative maps took effect on January 11, 2023, at the start of 2023 legislative. However, this special election took place under previous district lines. As a result of the redistricting process, the 7th district became the 22nd district in November,. Final official vote tallies were not released until January 13 because mail-in ballots were accepted after election day if postmarked for January 10. Democrat Aaron Rouse, an at-large Virginia Beach City Council member and former professional football player defeated Republican Kevin Adams, a retired U.S. Navy lieutenant commander and small business owner.
