A think tank,or policy institute,is a research institute that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy,political strategy,economics,military,technology,and culture. Most think tanks are non-governmental organizations,but some are semi-autonomous agencies within government or are associated with particular political parties,businesses or the military. Think-tanks are often funded by individual donations,with many also accepting government grants.

Fred Bergsten in 1981 and has been led by Adam S. Posen since 2013. A financial centre or financial hub is a location with a concentration of participants in banking,asset management,insurance or financial markets with venues and supporting services for these activities to take place. Participants can include financial intermediaries,institutional investors,and issuers. Trading activity can take place on venues such as exchanges and involve clearing houses,although many transactions take place over-the-counter (OTC),that is directly between participants. Financial centres usually host companies that offer a wide range of financial services,for example relating to mergers and acquisitions,public offerings,or corporate actions;or which participate in other areas of finance,such as private equity,hedge funds,and reinsurance. Ancillary financial services include rating agencies,as well as provision of related professional services,particularly legal advice and accounting services.
The Kiel Institute for the World Economy is an independent,non-profit economic research institute and think tank based in Kiel,Germany. In 2017,it was ranked as one of the top 50 most influential think tanks in the world and was also ranked in the top 15 in the world for economic policy specifically. German business newspaper,Handelsblatt,referred to the institute as "Germany's most influential economic think tank",while Die Welt,stated that "The best economists in the world are in Kiel".
The Commitment to Development Index (CDI),published annually by the Center for Global Development,ranks the world's richest countries on their dedication to policies that benefit the five billion people living in poorer nations. Rich and poor countries are linked in many ways;thus the Index looks beyond standard comparisons of foreign aid flows. It measures "development-friendliness" of 40 of the world's richest countries,all member nations of the OECD's Development Assistance Committee. The CDI assesses national effort in seven policy areas:aid,trade,investment,migration,environment,security,and technology. It is considered to be a numerical targeting indicator for Goal 8 of the Millennium Development Goals. It shows that aid is about more than quantity –quality also matters –and that development policy is about more than aid. The Index penalizes countries that give with one hand,for instance through aid or investment,but take away with the other,through trade barriers or pollution.

The Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) is a ranking of the competitiveness of financial centres based on over 29,000 financial centre assessments from an online questionnaire together with over 100 indices from organisations such as the World Bank,the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD),and the Economist Intelligence Unit. The first index was published in March 2007. It has been jointly published twice per year by Z/Yen Group in London and the China Development Institute in Shenzhen since 2015,and is widely quoted as a top source for ranking financial centres.
The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia or ERIA is an international organization established in Jakarta,Indonesia in 2008 by a formal agreement among Leaders of 16 countries in the East Asian region to conduct research activities and make policy recommendations for further economic integration in the East Asia. ERIA works very closely with both the ASEAN Secretariat and 16 Research Institutes to undertake and disseminate policy research under the three pillars,namely “Deepening Economic Integration”,”Narrowing Development Gaps”,and “Sustainable Development”and provide analytical policy recommendations to Leaders and Ministers at their regional meetings. Erik Berglöf is a Swedish economist,currently the Chief Economist of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB),the Beijing-based multilateral development bank established in 2016 with a mission to improve social and economic outcomes in Asia. In March 2019 Erik Berglöf was appointed to the European Council's High Level Group of Wise Persons on the European financial architecture for development where Berglöf and eight other economists will suggest changes to the EU's development finance structure. In 2017–2018 Erik Berglöf served on the secretariat of the G20 Eminent Persons Group on Global Financial Governance and on the Governing Board of the Institute for New Economic Thinking in New York.
Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone is a commercial development in Shenzhen,Guangdong that is also known as Qianhai New District. Located in Nanshan District and encircled by the Shuangjie River,Yueliangwan Boulevard,Mawan Boulevard and Qianhai Bay,Qianhai covers an area of approximately 15 square kilometres (5.8 sq mi),comprising almost entirely reclaimed land. The project is expected to be completed by 2020.
Unirule Institute of Economics was a Beijing-based Chinese think tank established in 1993. Unirule conducted research and education in social sciences,primarily in economics,governance,policy,and culture. Unirule was dedicated to the open exchange of ideas in economics in general,with a particular focus on institutional economics. In the University of Pennsylvania's 2012 Global Go To Think Tanks Report,Unirule ranked 14th in the category of "Best Think Tanks with an Annual Operating Budget under $5M USD". In August 2019 the institute announced that it would be closing down due to governmental pressure.
The Middle East Research Institute (MERI) is an academic policy-research institute and think tank based in Erbil in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. MERI carries out fundamental research in areas of peace,human rights,governance,security and economy. Founded in 2014,the organisation has grown rapidly and now occupies an important niche in the field of policy research in the Middle East. MERI has been ranked by Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program of University of Pennsylvania as Iraq's leading policy research organisation for the past three years in a run and No. 34 in the Middle East and North Africa.
