Christopher van Scott,also known as Chris Scott (born 1989 or 1990),is a Canadian politician who was elected as the member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Sault Ste. Marie in the 2025 Ontario election. Elected as a member of the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party,Scott was removed from caucus on September 22,2025,after he was arrested by the Toronto Police Service. Scott previously served as a special advisor to Premier Doug Ford's chief of staff.
Scott graduated from Carleton University with a bachelor of arts in political science and government. [2] [3] He previously worked in the office of his predecessor,PC MPP Ross Romano,and as a special advisor to the premier's chief of staff,before he was selected by Conservative leader Doug Ford as the party's candidate in the riding of Sault Ste. Marie for the 2025 election,by-passing the usual process of holding a local nomination vote. Romano served as Scott's campaign manager. [3] In the election,he beat NDP candidate Lisa Vezeau-Allen by 118 votes—the closest result in the Sault Ste. Marie for 120 years. [4]
On September 22,2025,the Toronto Police Service arrested Scott on an out of town warrant,on charges of assault and assault with a weapon. [5] Court documents filed by Sault Ste. Marie Police allege Scott was arrested after assaulting his wife using a high chair as a weapon on September 19. [6] [7] He was removed from the PC caucus following his arrest. [5]
