Gordon "Gord" Krantz is the mayor of Milton, Ontario, in Canada. He was first elected mayor in 1980, after serving as town councillor from 1965 to 1980. He has been re-elected for a total of 21 terms. With his re-election in 2014, Krantz surpassed the retired Hazel McCallion as Ontario's longest-serving mayor on December 1, 2016, and the longest-serving mayor of a major municipality in Canada. He was re-elected by a 1,000 vote margin the 2022 municipal election.

Michael Douglas Ford is a Canadian politician who has been the Ontario minister of citizenship and multiculturalism since June 24, 2022. A member of the Progressive Conservative (PC) Party, he has represented York South—Weston in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 2022. Ford previously served on Toronto City Council from 2016 to 2022. First elected as a school trustee in 2014, he later won a 2016 by-election for the council seat which was vacated upon the death of Councillor Rob Ford, before he was elected as a member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) in 2022. He is the nephew of Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario and Rob Ford, the former mayor of Toronto.

By-elections to the 44th Canadian Parliament may be held to fill vacancies in the House of Commons of Canada between the 2021 federal election and the 45th federal election. The 44th Canadian Parliament has existed since 2021 with the membership of its House of Commons having been determined by the results of the 44th Canadian federal election held on September 20, 2021. The Liberal Party of Canada has a minority government during this Parliament, supported by the New Democratic Party in a confidence-and-supply agreement. The Conservative Party of Canada forms the Official Opposition.

Elections were held in the Regional Municipality of Halton of Ontario on October 24, 2022, in conjunction with municipal elections across the province.

A by-election was held in the provincial riding of Milton in Ontario on May 2, 2024, to elect a new member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario following the resignation of Progressive Conservative MPP and cabinet minister Parm Gill in order to run in the 45th Canadian federal election.
