The Christian Reformed Church in the Philippines is a Calvinist denomination in the Philippines, founded by American missionaries in the mid-1900.

Origin

The church was first organised by missionaries Vince and Lucy Apostol, congregants of the Christian Reformed Church in North America. The mission started in 1962 when Christian Reformed World Missions began planting churches in Negros Island. In 1976, the denomination was officially organized with three congregations. Churches were organised into five classes. A synod was formed in 1983. By 1990, it had grown to 25 organized churches and 20 church plants. [1] [2] Now the church has over 50 congregations and 5,000 members. [3]

The Christian Reformed Church in the Philippines is a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches. [4]

Seminary

The Reformed Institute of Theology was founded in 1969 to provide theological training in the Philippine Christian Reformed Church. On January 1970, the seminary’s opening ceremony was held with an initial batch of 50 men and women. On June 1975, it became the Genevan Reformed Seminary. Finally, it became the Christian Reformed Seminary and Bible Institute. It is a growing institution, located in Bacolod, Negros Occidental. [6] The bible school in Bacolod City is non-operational as of this time.

The Presbyterian Church of the Philippines (PCP), officially The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the Philippines, is a growing evangelical, Bible-based Reformed church in the Philippines. It was officially founded in 1987 and the General Assembly was organized in September 1996.

The Africa Evangelical Presbyterian Church (AEPC) is a growing conservative Presbyterian and Reformed Church which adheres to the Westminster Confession of Faith started in Kenya, later spread to the surrounding countries like Burundi, Tanzania, Congo and as far as Zimbabwe. The headquarters of the church is located in Nairobi, Kenya. The current Moderator is Rev. Dr Joseph Mutei installed on Sunday 26th June 2022.

The Reformed Church in Venezuela was founded in 1985, pastor César Rodriguez rediscovered the truth of the Reformed faith and founded with help of two friend a confessional Reformed church in Barquisimeto. The church has 4 congregations and 200 professed members and 100 baptized members. Sister church relations with the Reformed Churches in the Netherlands (Liberated) was established in 1993. The church is a member of the Latin American branch of the World Reformed Fellowship. Theological institutions were organised and relationships between the denomination and the churches in Curacao established.

The Presbyterian Church in Bolivia is a confessional Presbyterian denomination in Bolivia, that was founded by Brazilian and American missionaries.

The Presbyterian Church of Africa was founded in 1898 by Rev. James Mzimba, who broke from the Church of Scotland. He was born in Ngquakai, and his father was a deacon in the Presbyterian Church. Mzimba become a pastor, and was ordained in 1875. He was sent to Scotland to the anniversary of the Free Church of Scotland, but later severed its ties with the denomination. In 1899 he founded his own independent Presbyterian church. He died in 1911. The first Synod was constituted in Alice, Cape Colony. Mzimba had a dispute with the Free Church of Scotland over land and over the use of money. The Presbyterian Church of Africa is a predominantly black church. It was a small group of churches with 2 presbyteries. The church grew steadily. It is one of the oldest independent churches in Africa.

Christian Evangelical Church in Timor is the second largest Protestant church in Indonesia with 2 million members and 2,161 congregations and almost 1,100 ministers. The Christian Evangelical Church in Timor belongs to the Reformed family of Protestantism. Despite its name, the church spreads across the Eastern Indonesian provinces. The church ministers in culturally diverse and poor areas.

Christian Church of Sumba is Calvinist church in Indonesia, a member of World Communion of Reformed Churches. The denomination was established on 15 January 1947. Today, the church has congregations in various cities outside the island of Sumba.

The Presbyterian Community in Congo is numerically the most influential and important Reformed denomination in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The denomination is a fruit of the American Presbyterian church in Congo which started in 1891. The church suffered controversies and splits during the 1950s and 1960s. The Reformed Church of Christ in Nigeria was formed in 1973 when a split occurred in the Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria. It consists of people of the Kuteb tribe, through multi-ethnic ministry is being pursued in other areas. In 1979 the church was officially recognised by the Nigerian government. In 1993 the church changed its name from Church of Christ in Nigeria to the current name. Since 1973 the church is growing rapidly. The denomination has about 500,000 members in hundreds of congregation and house fellowships.

The Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ is a Calvinist denomination in Nigeria, founded by the South African missionaries.

The Presbyterian Church in Korea (KoRyuPa) is an orthodox Calvinist denomination in South Korea. The church is also known as the Korean Reformed Presbyterian Church. The denomination was a result of the split of the Presbyterian Church in Korea (Koshin) due tensions in the KoRyu Seminary. Pastor Park Yun-Sun moved to Seoul and founded the Reformed Theological Seminary. To avoid division Park returned to Koshin but Chung Hun-Teuk took over as the director in the Seminary. In 1965 about 50 pastors was associated with the Seminary. The denomination has close contact with conservative Reformed churches in Japan, Netherlands and the United States. The church has approximately 80,000 members in 500 congregations and 16 presbyteries. No women ordination. It had 501 ordained ministers. The church subscribes the Westminster Confession of Faith, and the Apostles Creed. Since 1977 the leading figure of the church has been Yoo Don-Sik, who also directs the Reformed Theological Seminary too.

The Presbyterian Church of Korea (TongHap) is a mainline Protestant denomination based in South Korea; it currently has the second largest membership of any Presbyterian denomination in the world. It is affiliated with its daughter denomination, the Korean Presbyterian Church in America (KPCA) in the United States, which adopted the "Korean Presbyterian Church Abroad" as its new name in 2009.

The Presbyterian Church in Chile was founded on June 7, 1868 in the city of Santiago and was the first Protestant church in the country. The Chile mission was coordinated by Dr. Rev. David Trumbull and the United Presbyterian Church in the USA. On June 13, 1883 the first Presbytery was organised in Chile. It adopted the Constitution of the United Presbyterian Church in the USA. Till 1963 the church was dependent on the United Presbyterian Churches Synod of New York. With the creating of 3 more Presbyteries, the church become independent from the American Presbyterian church in January 1964.

The Nigeria Reformed Church was a mission project of the Reformed Congregations in the Netherlands. The work was started in 1970. In 2000 the denomination had 1,911 members. The church operates in the Izi tribe, comprising about a half million members in the north of Anambra state. The first mission point was opened on 28 August 1977. Over the years missionary congregations created and instituted. In April 1988 the federation was instituted with 17 ministers and 8 deacons served the church. Since then it has become independent. In 2011 the church had 2,500 members in 14 local congregations, 6 mission district in 4 Classis. The church served 9 pastors and 26 evangelists. Currently there are two missionaries working in Nigeria. The Heidelberg Catechism, the Canons of Dort and the Belgic Confession are the official standards.
