Frederic Anthony Rzewski was an American composer and pianist,considered to be one of the most important American composer-pianists of his time. From 1977 up to his eventual death,he lived mainly in Belgium. His major compositions,which often incorporate social and political themes,include the minimalist Coming Together and the variation set The People United Will Never Be Defeated!,which has been called "a modern classic".

Louis Quilico,was a Canadian opera singer. One of the leading dramatic baritones of his day,he was an ideal interpreter of the great Italian and French composers,especially Giuseppe Verdi. He was often referred to as "Mr Rigoletto" in reference to the Verdi opera. During his 45-year-long career he shared performing credits with opera's greatest stars. He spent 25 consecutive years at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. After his retirement from the stage in 1998 he continued to perform and record,most often with his second wife,pianist Christina Petrowska Quilico,,with whom he made four CDs. The couple also toured together extensively in concerts until Quilico's death in 2000. Quilico received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award,Canada's highest honour in the performing arts,in November 1999 for his lifetime contribution to classical music.
Janina Fialkowska,is a Canadian classical pianist. A specialist of the Classic and Romantic repertoires,for more than thirty years she has appeared regularly with professional orchestras around the world,often performing the music of Chopin,and also contemporary Polish composers including Lutosławski and Panufnik. In 1990,she gave the world premier performance of the recently discovered Franz Liszt Third Piano Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Jean Coulthard,was a Canadian composer and music educator. She was one of a trio of women composers who dominated Western Canadian music in the twentieth century:Coulthard,Barbara Pentland,and Violet Archer. All three died within weeks of each other in 2000. Her works might be loosely termed "prematurely neo-Romantic",as the orthodox serialists who dominated academic musical life in North America during the 1950s and 1960s had little use for her.

He is primarily remembered for his work within the field of piano pedagogy,having published an extensive amount of material in that area and teaching a large number of notable pianists. His more than 20 books on the subject of piano pedagogy sold more than 4 million copies. In 2000 he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada with the citation "Known as the teacher of teachers,he profoundly influenced musical instruction in our country. Having taught some of Canada's most illustrious musicians,he was known for his extensive contribution to pedagogical material and for his piano pieces for young performers."
