Christopher B. Shank (born June 30,1972) is an American politician who has served in a variety of roles within Maryland state government,including Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief Legislative Officer to Governor Larry Hogan. He has previously served in the Maryland Senate representing the 2nd district in Washington County,including a stint as Senate minority whip.
Shank graduated from South Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown,Maryland,and later attended Johns Hopkins University where he received his B.A. (history) in 1994. He graduated a Phi Beta Kappa. He later attained his M.A. (political management) from the Graduate School of Political Management at the George Washington University in 1998. He was the valedictorian and received the Howard Paley Academic Excellence Award.

After college, Shank was a legislative assistant to the Washington County Delegation. He served in this role from 1994 to 1998. Along with being a delegate he is also an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Political Management at George Washington University.
He is also a member of the Advisory Committee of the Cold Weather Homeless Shelter of Washington County, serving since 1997. He was formerly on the board of directors for the Washington County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. [1] Shank is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), serving as Maryland state leader. [2]
In 2008, Shank was given a teaching post in George Washington University's Summer Scholars Program. Shank taught a course on election politics. During the 10-day program he lectured on his experience in campaigning as well as worked with students to simulate a mock campaign.[ citation needed ]
In January 2010, Shank announced his intention to challenge long-serving state senator Donald Munson based on charges that Munson was "too liberal." [3] On September 14, 2010, Shank defeated Munson in the Republican primary election, winning the party's nomination. Shank received 57.05% of the vote compared to Munson's 42.05%. [4]
On January 13, 2015, Shank was appointed as director of the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention and resigned his state senate seat eight days later. [5]
In 2016, Shank was promoted to the Deputy Chief of Staff of Maryland.

Michael Erin “Coach” Busch was an American politician and member of the Democratic Party who served as the 106th Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates from 2003 until his death in 2019. Busch was a member of the House for nine terms, beginning in 1987. He represented all of legislative District 30 prior to redistricting in 2012, and represented District 30A after the district was split following the 2010 census. The district encompasses parts of Anne Arundel County, including the state capital of Annapolis.
David R. Craig is an American Republican Party politician from the State of Maryland who unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for Governor of Maryland in 2014. He was appointed, and sworn in as Harford County Executive on July 7, 2005. Craig was elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. Craig previously served in the Maryland State Senate in 1995–99 representing Harford County and in 1990-94 in the Maryland House of Delegates. He was also elected Mayor of Havre de Grace from 1985 to 1989 and 2001 to 2005. David was a teacher and assistant principal in the Harford County Public School System for thirty-four years.

Robert McKee is a former member of the Maryland House of Delegates, having represented District 2A, which covers part of Washington County. McKee was first elected into office in 1994 when he defeated Democrat Richard E. Roulette. In 1998 he ran unopposed. In 2002, he defeated Peter E. Perini, Sr. with 75% of the vote and in 2006, he again ran unopposed, out-matching the write-ins with 99.2% of the vote.
Gail Bates was a member of the Maryland Senate from 2015 to 2019 and a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from 2002 to 2015. She was selected to replace Robert Kittleman in the Maryland House of Delegates in February 2002 when Kittleman was selected to replace Chris McCabe in the Maryland State Senate. In a close election in 2018, Bates was defeated by non-profit executive Katie Fry Hester by 1.7 percentage points. Bates was nominated to serve on the state Board of Education by Gov.
