The town of Rangkasbitung in the north of the regency is the administrative centre. The Bantenese are an Austronesian ethnic group native to Banten in the westernmost part of Java island, Indonesia. The area of Banten province corresponds more or less with the area of the former Banten Sultanate, a Bantenese nation state that preceded Indonesia. In his book "The Sultanate of Banten", Guillot Claude writes on page 35: “These estates, owned by the Bantenese of Chinese descent, were concentrated around the village of Kelapadua.” Most of Bantenese are Sunni Muslim. On 23 January 2018, at 13:34:50 Western Indonesian Time, an earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Java near the regency of Lebak. The earthquake, measured 5.9 on the Mww, occurred approximately 40 kilometres south of the village of Binuangeun at a depth of 43.9 kilometres. The earthquake was categorized as a strong and shallow earthquake.

Its focus is the author Multatuli, who lived in the area in the 1850s and used it as the basis for his famous anti-colonial novel Max Havelaar. The museum also examines Dutch East Indies colonial history, the anti-colonial movement, and the local history of Rangkasbitung. There is another Multatuli Museum in Amsterdam which houses many of the author's papers.

Ciomas is a kecamatan in Bogor Regency, West Java, Indonesia. It is located near the provincial border with Banten, about 21 kilometers southwest of the regency capital Cibinong, and 3 kilometers west of the city center of Bogor.
