Banten is the westernmost province on the island of Java, Indonesia. Its capital city is Serang and its largest city is in Tangerang. The province borders West Java and the Special Capital Region of Jakarta on the east, the Java Sea on the north, the Indian Ocean on the south, and the Sunda Strait on the west and shares a maritime border with Bengkulu and Lampung to the east and Bangka Belitung Islands to the north. The province covers an area of 9,662.82 km2 (3,730.84 sq mi). It had a population of over 11.9 million in the 2020 census, up from about 10.6 million in 2010. The estimated mid-2022 population was 12.25 million. Formerly part of the province of West Java, Banten become a province in 2000. The northern half has recently experienced rapid rises in population and urbanization, and the southern half has a more traditional character but an equally fast-rising population.
Serang Regency is a regency of Banten province, Indonesia. It is located in the northwest corner of the island of Java. The administrative center of the regency is at Ciruas, while the capital of the province is the independent municipality of Serang which was split off the regency on 17 July 2007.
Cinere is a district of the city of Depok, West Java, Indonesia. It covers an area of 10.55 km2 and had a population of 107,461 at the 2010 Census; the latest official estimate is 144,038. Cinere borders to its east with the Jagakarsa District and to its north with the Cilandak District, both being part of South Jakarta City; to the west it borders with the Ciputat Timur District and the Pamulang District of South Tangerang City within Banten Province; and to the south it borders the Limo District of Depok City. Cinere has a large multi-racial population as a result of long-term transmigration from elsewhere in West Java and from Banten, that began in the late 1960s.
Tangerang Regency is a regency of Banten province, Indonesia. It is located on the island of Java. The current regent is Ahmed Zaki Iskandar. Though commonly misunderstood as being a part of Jakarta, Tangerang is actually outside Jakarta City but is part of Greater Jakarta. Since 1993, the regency has lost territory as first Tangerang city was split off on 27 February 1993 and subsequently South Tangerang city was split off on 29 October 2008. The residual Regency now has an area of 959.61 km2 and a population of 2,834,376 at the 2010 census, growing to 3,245,619 at the 2020 census; the latest official estimate is 3,352,472. Tigaraksa is the regency seat.
Lebak Regency is a regency of Banten province, Indonesia. It is located on the island of Java. The regency has an area of 3,305.072 km2 and had a population of 1,204,095 at the 2010 census and 1,386,793 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,433,853. The town of Rangkasbitung in the north of the regency is the administrative centre. The regency is bordered by Pandeglang Regency to the west, Serang Regency to the north, and Tangerang Regency to the north-east, and by Bogor Regency and Sukabumi Regency of West Java Province to the east.
The Bantenese people are an indigenous ethnic group native to Banten in the westernmost part of Java island, Indonesia. The area of Banten province corresponds more or less with the area of the former Banten Sultanate, a Bantenese nation state that preceded Indonesia. In his book "The Sultanate of Banten", Guillot Claude writes on page 35: “These estates, owned by the Bantenese of Chinese descent, were concentrated around the village of Kelapadua.” Most of Bantenese are Sunni Muslim. The Bantenese speak the Bantenese language, a variety of the Sundanese language which does not have a general linguistic register, this language is called Basa Sunda Banten.
Pondok Cabe Airport is a combined civilian and military airport in Pondok Cabe, Pamulang, South Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia. The airport is owned by the state oil company Pertamina and operated by Pelita Air Service, which also owned Indopelita Aircraft Services that has a maintenance hangar at this airport. Pondok Cabe does not handle regular airline traffic. Other than serving as the Maintenance, repair and overhaul base for Pelita Air Service and PT. Indonesia Defence Services, the airport is also the home of the Aviation Wing of the Indonesian National Police, CASA 212 equipped- Multipurpose air squadron of the Indonesian Army and Naval Aviation (Puspenerbal) of Indonesian Navy as well as Portela Jaya Light-sport aircraft hangar.
Pondok Aren is a district in the city of South Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia. It is located on the south-western outskirts of Jakarta. The area covers 29.88 km2 and had a population at the 2020 Census of 294,996. Pondok Aren district mainly covers the area of Bintaro Jaya and borders South Jakarta to the east. Pondok Aren district office is located at Jl. Graha Raya Bintaro, Perigi Baru behind the Pondok Aren Sectoral Police office.
South Tangerang is a city in the province of Banten, Indonesia. Located 30 km (19 mi) on the southwestern border of Jakarta, the city forms part of the Greater Jakarta metropolitan area. It was administratively separated from Tangerang Regency on 26 November 2008. According to the 2020 Census, the city population was 1,354,350 inhabitants, while the official estimate as at mid 2022 was 1,378,466. The total area is 164.85 km2 (63.65 sq mi). It's the second-largest city in Banten in terms of population, and has grown rapidly, not only as Jakarta's satellite city, but also the development of business districts and commerce due to presence of large-scale planned town by private developers.
The railway between Jakarta and Anyer Kidul is a railway connecting several places in the province of Banten to Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. It was constructed between 1899 and 1900 in the Dutch colonial age, during which it was also known as the Banten railway.
Pondok Ranji Station (PDJ) is a railway station on the KRL Commuterline Green Line in East Ciputat, South Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia. On August 20, 2020, Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, attended the Groundbreaking New Image and Accessibility Improvement of Pondok Ranji Station. The inauguration is the start of the construction or renovation of Pondok Ranji station. In January 2022, the renovations have finished and Pondok Ranji station has a new shape.
Jurangmangu Station (JMG) is a class III railway station located in Sawah Lama, Ciputat, South Tangerang. The station is located at an elevation of +25 meters above sea level and is included in Operation Area I Jakarta. Even though it is called Jurangmangu, this station is not located in Jurangmangu Village, Pondok Aren District, but is located in the south of Jurangmangu village itself.
Bintaro Jaya is a planned township located in Greater Jakarta, Indonesia. It is developed by PT Jaya Real Property Tbk. The development of the township began within South Jakarta in 1979 and is expanded further to South Tangerang in Banten province. The township is built as a satellite city for Jakarta, with a total land area of about 1000 hectares. The name Bintaro is derived from the Bintaro Village, which also takes the name of Bintaro plant, whereas Jaya came from the name of the developer.
Indonesian National Route 12 is a relatively short, yet heavily used road in the national route system. It serves as one of the major arteries in the Jabodetabek region, as the road spans through areas considered as part of the metropolitan area itself. Despite its location, it spans through three provinces, that is Jakarta, Banten, and West Java, as the road itself connects Senayan, South Jakarta, Jakarta on the northern end, with Bogor, Bogor Regency, West Java in its southern end.
Banten Sundanese or Bantenese is one of the Sundanese dialect spoken predominantly by the Bantenese —an indigenous ethnic group native to Banten— in the westernmost hemisphere of Java island, and in the western Bogor Regency, as well as the northwestern parts of Sukabumi Regency. A variety of Bantenese is spoken by the Ciptagelar people in the Kasepuhan Ciptagelar traditional community in the Cisolok district and the Kasepuhan Banten Kidul traditional community in the Lebak Regency.
Serpong City Football Club is an Indonesian football club based in North Serpong, South Tangerang, Banten. They currently competes in Liga 3, started as just a soccer school club in 2012, in 2021, they were inaugurated at the PSSI congress as a professional football club.
Serang–Panimbang Toll Road is a toll road that links Serang with Special Economic Zones of Tanjung Lesung and Ujung Kulon National Park. The toll road is connected with Tangerang-Merak Toll Road. The toll road has length of 83.6 kilometres (51.9 mi). This toll road is built to ease logistics and goods travel from industrial areas in Pandeglang Regency and Lebak Regency all the way to Port of Merak or Port of Tanjung Priok. Section I has been inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 16 November 2021.
Banten II is an electoral district in Indonesia which encompasses the cities of Serang and Cilegon, along with Serang Regency. It currently sends six members to the People's Representative Council.
