The City Wall of Suzhou is the remains of the old protective wall that once surrounded Suzhou in Jiangsu Province in eastern China.
The state of Wu is recorded fortifying its capital at Wu (modern Suzhou) in 514 BC. The original city wall had only one entrance,the Pan Gate.
Most of the current fortifications date to around 1662,when they were rebuilt under the early Qing dynasty to repair damage from the conquest of the Ming.
Before the wall began to be demolished in 1958,it was 15,204 m (49,882 ft) long. Today,only 2,072 m (6,798 ft) remain. [1]
The Forbidden City is a palace complex in Dongcheng District,Beijing,China,at the center of the Imperial City of Beijing. Tiger Hill or Huqiu is a hill in Suzhou,China. It is a tourist destination that is known for its natural environment and historic sites. The hill's name is said to come from the fact it looks like a crouching tiger. Another legend states that a white tiger appeared on the hill to guard it following the burial of King Helü. The hill is also sometimes referred to in parallel with Shizishan,another mountain in Suzhou which resembles a sitting lion.
Pan Gate,Pan Men,or Panmen is a historical landmark in Suzhou,Jiangsu,China. It is located on the south-west corner of the Main Canal or encircling canal of Suzhou. Originally built during the Spring and Autumn period in the state of Wu,historians estimate it to be around 2,500 years old. It is now part of the Pan Gate Scenic Area. It is known for the "three landmarks of Pan Gate". They are the Ruiguang Pagoda,the earliest pagoda in Suzhou built in 247,the Wu Gate Bridge,the entrance to the gate at that time over the water passage and the highest bridge in Suzhou at the time,and Pan Gate. The Ruigang Pagoda is constructed of brick with wooden platforms and has simple Buddhist carvings at its base.
The Gate to the East,also known as the Gate of the Orient,is the second tallest building in Suzhou,Jiangsu,China behind Suzhou IFS. It is intended to be a symbol of a gateway to the city which emphasizes the city's continuing significance in modern China. With a height of 301.8 metres (990 ft),the building is located in the heart of Suzhou's China–Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) district. Construction began in 2004 and was completed in 2016 at a cost of $700 million USD. Its location precisely indicates the intersection of the historical east-west-axis of Suzhou Old Town with the west bank of Jinji Lake.
Chinese city walls refer to defensive walls built to protect important towns and cities in pre-modern China. In addition to walls,Chinese city defenses also included fortified towers and gates,as well as moats and ramparts around the walls.
The Beisi Pagoda or North Temple Pagoda is a Chinese pagoda located at Bao'en Temple in Suzhou,Jiangsu Province,China. The base of the pagoda has an octagonal frame,and the tower rises nine stories in a total height of 76 m (249 ft). The pagoda was once eleven stories tall,but was damaged and reduced to nine stories. Its double eaves and flying corners are similar to that of the Liuhe Pagoda found in Hangzhou. Its base and outside walls are made of brick,the balustrades made of stone,and the eaves and banisters encircling the structure are made of wood.
The Qian Mausoleum is a Tang dynasty (618–907) tomb site located in Qian County,Shaanxi province,China,and is 85 km (53 mi) northwest from Xi'an. Built in 684,the tombs of the mausoleum complex house the remains of various members of the House of Li,the imperial family of the Tang dynasty. This includes Emperor Gaozong,as well as his wife,Wu Zetian,who assumed the Tang throne and became China's only reigning female emperor from 690 to 705. The mausoleum is renowned for its many Tang dynasty stone statues located above ground and the mural paintings adorning the subterranean walls of the tombs. Besides the main tumulus mound and underground tomb of Emperor Gaozong and Wu Zetian,there are 17 smaller attendant tombs,or peizang mu. Presently,only five of these attendant tombs have been excavated by archaeologists,three belonging to members of the imperial family,one to a chancellor,and the other to a general of the left guard. The Shaanxi Administration of Cultural Heritage declared in 2012 that no further excavations would take place for at least 50 years.

The Old City of Shanghai,also formerly known as the Chinese city,is the traditional urban core of Shanghai. Its boundary was formerly defined by a defensive wall. The Old City was the county seat for the old county of Shanghai. With the advent of foreign concessions in Shanghai,the Old City became just one part of Shanghai's urban core,but continued for decades to be the seat of the Chinese authority in Shanghai. Notable features include the City God Temple,which is located in the center of the Old City and is connected to the Yuyuan Garden. With the exception of two short sections,the walls were demolished in 1912,and a broad circular avenue built over the former wall and moat:the southern half was named the "Zhonghua Road" and the northern half the "Minguo Road".
The Tianfei Palace,officially the Mazu Cultural Palace and also known as the Tianhou Palace,is a restored temple of the Chinese sea-goddess Mazu,the deified form of the medieval Fujianese shamaness Lin Moniang,located in Fangta Park in Songjiang,Shanghai,in eastern China. Officially classified as a museum,the Tianfei Palace conducts Mazuist rites twice a year,on the traditional anniversaries of Lin Moniang's birth and death. It is also used as the site for an annual commemoration of Songjiang's city god Li Daiwen.
