Clough Dene is a village in County Durham, England.^[1]^[2] It is situated a short distance to the north of Tantobie, a few miles from Stanley and Annfield Plain.

The etymology is doubtful: it looks as if it ends in Old Norse by "village", "farm", like Lockerbie and Formby, but the meaning is uncertain.

Stanley is a former colliery town and civil parish in County Durham, England. Centred on a hilltop between Chester-le-Street and Consett, the town lies south west of Gateshead.
