Codium duthiae is a species of seaweed in the Codiaceae family. [1]
The epilithic green marine alga typically grows to a height of 60 centimetres (24 in). It has a discoid holdfast with spongy erect fronds on terete branches.
It is found on coastal area with light to moderate water movement from the low tide mark to a depth of 25 metres (82 ft)
In Western Australia is found along the coast near Shark Bay extending down around the south coast. [1] Its range extends around southern Australia to Victoria and northern Tasmania
Codium is a genus of edible green macroalgae under the order Bryopsidales. The genus name is derived from a Greek word that pertains to the soft texture of its thallus. One of the foremost experts on Codium taxonomy was Paul Claude Silva at the University of California, Berkeley. P.C. Silva was able to describe 36 species for the genus and in honor of his work on Codium, the species C. silvae was named after the late professor.
