Colette Lucas-Conwell is an American coxswain. At the 2023 Pan American Games, Lucas-Conwell won gold as the coxswain for the United States mixed eight and silver for the women's eight. She is the first female athlete invited to a men's Olympic rowing selection camp in U.S. rowing history. [1] [2]
Lucas-Conwell was born in Paris to Susan and Frederic Lucas-Conwell. [3] She has a fraternal twin and two older sisters. Her family moved to Palo Alto, California when she was 10. She holds dual citizenship in the United States and France. After graduating from Palo Alto High School, she attended the University of Virginia, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2017 and Minor in Leadership in the McIntyre School of Commerce. [4]
Lucas-Conwell started coxing in 8th grade at NorCal Crew in Redwood City. She competed in the USRowing Youth Club National Championships in 2011 finishing second in the men’s junior B eight with Southeast Juniors. She transferred to Los Gatos Rowing Club her senior year and got fourth in the women's lightweight eight at the USRowing Youth National Championships in 2013.
While attending the University of Virginia, Lucas-Conwell competed for the school's D1 womens rowing team. In 2014, she won gold in the college division of the Womens Championship Eight at the Head of the Charles Regatta. In 2015, she was a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Second-Team All-American and CRCA All-Region 3 first team member. That year, she finished third in the varsity eight at the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships [4] and was the coxswain for the ACC champion varsity eight that was named ACC Crew of the Year. [3] The following year, she was a CRCA All-Region first team member and was nominated to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team. [3] Lucas-Conwell won the varsity eight at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships and competed at the NCAA Division 1 Championships in the women's varsity eight in 2015, 2016, and 2017. [4] [5]

She has competed at the Head of the Charles Regatta ten times (2011, 2013 - 2019, 2021 - 2022) including three times with the United States Senior National Team (2018, 2019, 2021). Shortly after graduating she won gold in the Womens Alumni Eight (2017) with UVA, where she also set a course record. She competed in the Men's Championship Eight for the first time in 2018 and won the event the following year in 2019 [6] . She finished second in the Men's Championship Four in 2021, then competed with Marin Rowing Association in the Men's Senior Masters Eight in 2022 where she placed second. [4]
In 2018, she competed at the Heineken Roeivierkamp, where she won the Men’s Masters Eight D age category with a composite crew of former International Olympians representing Cambridge Boat Club. [4] She came back to win the Men's Masters Eight E category in 2022 with a similar crew. [7]
In 2022, Lucas-Conwell competed with the mens US Rowing Senior National Team in the Grand Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta where she was a semi-finallist. [4]
Lucas-Conwell won gold as the coxswain for the United States mixed eight at the 2023 Pan American Games, the first time the event was ever contested on the world stage. [8] [9] She also helped the United States' first women’s eight team secure a silver medal in Chile. [10]

The United States Rowing Association, commonly known as USRowing, is the national governing body for the sport of Rowing in the United States. It serves to promote the sport on all levels of competition, including the selection and training of those who represent the US at international level.
Rowing is the oldest intercollegiate sport in the United States. The first intercollegiate race was a contest between Yale and Harvard in 1852. In the 2018–19 school year, there were 2,340 male and 7,294 female collegiate rowers in Divisions I, II and III, according to the NCAA. The sport has grown since the first NCAA statistics were compiled for the 1981–82 school year, which reflected 2,053 male and 1,187 female collegiate rowers in the three divisions. Some concern has been raised that some recent female numbers are inflated by non-competing novices.
Lightweight rowing is a category of rowing where limits are placed on the maximum body weight of competitors. According to the International Rowing Federation (FISA), this weight category was introduced "to encourage more universality in the sport especially among nations with less statuesque people".
Francis Conn Findlay was an American Olympic rower and sailor. He won four Olympic medals in those two sports, including two golds in coxed pair. He was also part of the America's Cup sailing crews that won in 1974 and 1977. He is one of 11 sailors to have won both the America's Cup and an Olympic medal.

Caryn Davies is an American rower. She is the winner of the 2023 Thomas Keller Medal, the most prestigious international award in the sport of rowing, and the only American to have ever won this award. She won gold medals as the stroke seat of the U.S. women's eight at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2008 Summer Olympics. In April 2015 Davies stroked Oxford University to victory in the first ever women's Oxford/Cambridge boat race held on the same stretch of the river Thames in London where the men's Oxford/Cambridge race has been held since 1829. She was the most highly decorated Olympian to take part in either [men's or women's] race. In 2012 Davies was ranked number 4 in the world by the International Rowing Federation. At the 2004 Olympic Games she won a silver medal in the women's eight. Davies has won more Olympic medals than any other U.S. oarswoman. The 2008 U.S. women's eight, of which she was a part, was named FISA crew of the year. Davies is from Ithaca, New York, where she graduated from Ithaca High School, and rowed with the Cascadilla Boat Club. Davies was on the Radcliffe College (Harvard) Crew Team and was a member on Radcliffe's 2003 NCAA champion Varsity 8, and overall team champion. In 2013, she was a visiting student at Pembroke College, Oxford, where she stroked the college men's eight to a victory in both Torpids and the Oxford University Summer Eights races. In 2013–14 Davies took up Polynesian outrigger canoeing in Hawaii, winning the State novice championship and placing 4th in the long-distance race na-wahine-o-ke-kai with her team from the Outrigger Canoe Club. In 2013, she was inducted into the New York Athletic Club Hall of Fame and in 2022 into the Harvard University Athletics Hall of Fame.
Eleanor Logan is an American rower. She is the first American rower to win a gold medal in three consecutive Olympics, a three-time Olympic champion and three-time world champion. Logan was born in Portland, Maine. Logan's home town is Boothbay Harbor and she attended the Brooks School in 2003 in North Andover, Massachusetts for high school. She is affiliated with the Lake Samish Training Center.
Megan Cooke Carcagno is an American rower. She was a gold medalist at the 2006 World Rowing Cup and a gold medalist at the 2006 FISA World Rowing Championships, assisting in setting a world best time for the U.S. National Team. She was also a 2006 champion at the Henley Royal Regatta and the Head of the Charles Regatta.
The Vesper Boat Club is an amateur rowing club located at #10 Boathouse Row in the historic Boathouse Row of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1865 as the Washington Barge Club, the club's name was changed to Vesper Boat Club in 1870.
Yasmin Farooq is an American rowing cox and the head coach of the University of Washington women's rowing team. She graduated from Waupun High School in 1984 at Waupun, Wisconsin. She attended the University of Wisconsin where she joined the rowing team in 1984 as a coxswain. She was a member of the 1986 national champion JV eight and served as captain and MVP of the team her senior year. A two-time Olympian and world champion in rowing, Farooq later became a college coach at Stanford University where she helped the Cardinal win its first ever Pac-12 and NCAA titles in rowing. At the University of Washington, her team swept the NCAA Championship for the first-time in history, then repeated the feat in 2019 setting NCAA records in all three events. She has been named Pac-12 coach of the year six times and national coach of the year three times. She was inducted into the USRowing Hall of Fame in 2014 and awarded the Ernestine Bayer Woman of the Year award by USRowing in 2017. In 2021, Farooq was inducted into the Wisconsin Athletics Hall of Fame.

John Albert "Monster" Mathews is an American former competitive rower, U.S. Olympian and Pan American. He was a member of the 1975 World Championship Team to Nottingham, England, where he placed fifth in the coxed pair. Mathews was also a member of the U.S. Olympic Team competing in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal in the men's coxed pair event.
Jennifer Sichel is an American coxswain. She competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. She won three silver medals from the World Rowing Championships and a silver medal from the 2016 Paralympic Games. She is a Royal Canadian Henley Regatta champion, a five-time Head of the Charles Regatta champion, and three-time U.S. national champion. She was a member of the Paralympic Great Eight at the 2016 Head of the Charles Regatta consisting of gold, silver, and bronze Rio Paralympic medalists from Great Britain, United States, and Canada.
