The College of Agriculture and Renewable Natural Resources (CANR) is one of the six colleges of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana.
CANR was founded in January 2005 after the release of revised university statuses in December 2004. It emerged from the former Faculty of Agriculture, the Institute of Renewable Natural Resources, and the School of Forestry.
CANR has a total of 13 academic departments with a student population of about 2000, an academic staff of about 90, and about 130 supporting staff. [1]
CANR was established in January 2005, after the release of the revised university statutes in December 2004. It was formed from the former Faculty of Agriculture, the Institute of Renewable Natural Resources and the School of Forestry, Sunyani.
CANR is mandated to train and equip graduates with the requisite academic and entrepreneurial skills in the areas of agricultural production and natural resource management for sustainable national development, in addition to carrying out research and extension services in these areas. [2]
CANR is involved in a number of collaborative researches with National and International Institutions and Organizations such as FORIG, MOFA, Forestry Commission, ICRA, and CIDA among others.

In addition to the Faculties, CANR has four(4) Research Centres:
CANRs offers undergraduate programmes leading to the award of a Bachelor of Science degree as well as postgraduate programmes leading to the award of MSc, MPhil or PhD degrees. [6]
BSc degrees are awarded by tCANR's Faculties with specialisation options in the departments in those Faculties.

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is a public University of Ghana that focuses on science and technology. The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is the public university established in the country, as well as the largest university in the Kumasi Metropolis and in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. KNUST has its roots in the plans of Agyeman Prempeh I, a ruler of the Ashanti Kingdom, to establish a university in Kumasi as part of his drive towards modernization of his Ashanti kingdom. This plan never came to fruition due to the clash between British empire expansion and the desire for King Prempeh I to preserve his Ashanti kingdom's independence.
The University for Development Studies, Tamale was established in 1992 by the government of Ghana with a view to accelerating the development of the then 3 Northern Regions of Ghana. The late President Jerry John Rawlings played a crucial role in its founding as he used his prize money from World Food Prize of $50,000 as seed money for its founding. It was set up as a multi-campus institution. It is the fifth public university to be established in Ghana. This deviates from the usual practice of having universities with central campuses and administrations. It was created with the three northern regions of North Ghana in mind. These are the Northern Region, Upper East Region and the Upper West Region. It has four campuses in all, eight Faculties, a Business School, one Medical School, one Graduate School, one Institute and three centres.
The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) is a public university located at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana.
The Presbyterian University, Ghana is a partially private & public university with multi- campuses and its headquarters located at Abetifi-Kwahu in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It is one of the new universities in Ghana granted accreditation by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission – GTEC. It was established by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) on 23 November 2003 and inaugurated on 27 March 2004 by the president of Ghana in that republic, John Agyekum Kufuor.
The Regent University College of Science and Technology is located in Accra, Ghana. It was registered in September 2003, and received accreditation to operate as a tertiary institution in 2004. In January 2005 it started its lectures with 30 pioneer students at Trinity Campus, Mataheko.
Wisconsin International University College, Ghana is one of the earliest established private universities in Ghana. It is located at Agbogba Junction near Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It was established in January 2000 and is accredited by the National Accreditation Board as a university college and affiliated to the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and University for Development Studies.
The College of Art and Built Environment came into existence in January 2005 in Kumasi, Ghana, as part of the restructuring of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology into a Collegiate System. In the restructuring, the Faculty of Environmental and Development studies (FEDS) and the Institute of Land Management and Development (ILMAD) were merged to form the college.
The College of Engineering is one of the six colleges of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, in Kumasi, Ghana. It was established in October 1952 to prepare students for professional qualifications only. It has since grown and expanded and now as a college runs 15 BSc, 20 MSc, MPhil and PhD programmes under 3 faculties; the faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the faculty of Civil and Geo Engineering and the faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering and 10 academic departments.
The College of Health Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology comprises the Faculties of Allied Health Sciences, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Medical Sciences, School of Dentistry, School of Veterinary Medicine and the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research in tropical medicine (KCCR). It attained the status of a college by a change in the University Statutes that came into being in January 2005. Prior to this time, the components of the college existed separately as the Faculty of Pharmacy and School of Medical Sciences.
The KNUST Department of Planning (DOP) is one of the academic departments at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. It is under the KNUST College of Architecture and Planning. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the award of a degree. It is the only institution in Ghana professionally recognized by its government to train personnel to promote, coordinate and manage development at the national and sub-national levels.
The University College of Management Studies is a private university college in Accra and Kumasi, Ghana. The school is affiliated with the School of Business of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi and the University of Education Winneba, Kumasi Campus.
Esi Awuah is a Ghanaian academic and former vice chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani, Ghana.
The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) is a public co-educational university spread over four campuses and made up of six schools, ten research centers located at Greenhill in Accra, Ghana. The location of GIMPA, Greenhill, was named by Nicholas T. Clerk who served as the Rector of the Institute from 1977 to 1982. The name, "Greenhill", is a reference to the lush greenery and hilly topography of the main campus, as well as its location in Legon which was historically on the periphery of the Ghanaian capital, Accra. Together with 200 state institutions, GIMPA successfully participated in a Public Sector Reform Programme under the auspices of the World Bank and became a self-financing institution as part of the National Institutional Reform Programme in 2001. It was established as a public university by an Act of Parliament in 2004. The institute was established in 1961 by the Government of Ghana with assistance from the United Nations Special Fund Project and was initially called the Institute of Public Administration, intended as a specialist training graduate school for civil servants in Ghana. Today, GIMPA offers bachelor's, master's and executive master's degree programmes in business administration, entrepreneurship, law, public administration, development management, governance, leadership and technology.
The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) is a university outside Lilongwe, Malawi. It was formed in 2011 by a merger between Bunda College of Agriculture of the University of Malawi and Natural Resources College (NRC).
Emmanuel Kwabena Marfo is a Ghanaian politician who was a member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana and currently a member of the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Oforikrom Constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. He is a member of the Forest Plantation Development Fund Management Board.
Samuel Nii Odai is a Ghanaian professor of Hydraulics and Water Resources, and a serving Vice Chancellor of Accra Technical University. He is a Commonwealth Academic Fellow, and a recipient of the National Best Research Scientist Gold Award for water, environment and sanitation.
Richard Tuyee Awuah is a Ghanaian academic, and Plant Pathologist. He was the dean of the faculty of Agriculture of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and the principal of the University of Education's College of Agriculture.
Peggy Oti-Boateng is a Ghanaian bio-chemist. She is the current executive director of African Academy of Sciences. She is the immediate former head of UNESCO Science Policy and Capacity Building Department. She was also a former head of the Sciences Sector for the Southern African Development Community, director of the Research Centre at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and former chair of the BioInnovate Africa Programme Advisory Committee (PAC).
