The Commissioner of the Kolkata Police (formerly Commissioner of the Calcutta Police) is the head of the Kolkata Police. The Kolkata police commissioner is appointed by the Minister of Home and Hill Affairs and reports independently to the Home Secretary for West Bengal. The commissioner sits at the Kolkata Police Headquarters, located at 18 Lalbazar Street in the Lalbazar neighbourhood of central Kolkata.
The commissioner is an Indian Police Service officer of the rank of Additional Director-General (ADG) of Police. The commissioner heads the almost 35,000 strong metropolitan police force in a jurisdiction consisting of approximately 243km2 area and is the home to 14,617,992 people (2011 census figures).

Sanjay Mitra is a retired 1982 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of West Bengal cadre. He served as Defence Secretary of India, and prior to that as Union Road Transport and Highways Secretary, and the Chief Secretary of West Bengal. Mitra also served—on an acting basis—as the chairperson of the Defence Research and Development Organisation for a period of three months.

She briefly served as the registrar of the National University of Juridical Sciences as well as of the Calcutta High Court before being appointed as a judge at the High Court. Before this he served as the Director General of West Bengal Police from August 2021 to December 2023. He has held several important positions in his career, including Additional Commissioner of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security in Delhi, and Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police. He was promoted to the rank of Director General in 2017 and held the post till 2023.
Rajeev Kumar PPM IPS is an Indian police officer and bureaucrat, who is serving as the Director General of West Bengal Police, since July 2024. Previously he served in the same post from December 2023 until was removed by Election Commission of India in March 2024. Prior to his office, he is also additional chief secretary of Information Technology of West Bengal Government since 2023.
