The Connecticut Cobras are a professional basketball team in Norwalk, Connecticut, and members of The Basketball League (TBL).

History

The team was first established in February 2021. [1] On July 21, 2021, it was announced that Norwalk would be awarded a franchise for the upcoming 2022 TBL season. [2]

The Connecticut Cobras are the first men's professional basketball team in Connecticut since the Connecticut Pride, a member of the Continental Basketball Association, which was based in Hartford from 1993 to 2000, and in New Haven in 2001. [3]

The first head coach of the Cobras was Vic Joshua, who was succeeded by Joe Deludis on an interim basis.[ citation needed ] In August 2021, it was announced that Troy Bradford would serve as the team's head coach going forward. [4]

Connecticut Pride Basketball team

The Connecticut Pride were an American professional basketball team based in Hartford, Connecticut that was a member of the Continental Basketball Association. They played in Hartford from 1993 to 2000, primarily at the Connecticut State Arsenal and Armory, and also at the Hartford Civic Center and the University of Hartford Sports Center. Its final season, from 2000 to 2001, was played at the New Haven Coliseum.

Billy Lush (baseball) American baseball player (1873–1951)

William Lucas Lush was an American baseball player and college athletics coach and administrator. He played seven seasons of Major League Baseball from 1895 to 1904, including three with the Washington Senators. He later worked as a college athletics coach at Yale University, Columbia University, Fordham University, the United States Naval Academy, St. John's University, the University of Baltimore and Trinity College, Hartford. He also held athletic director positions at Fordham and the Naval Academy. In the 1930s, he coached athletic teams at Sing Sing prison in Ossining, New York.

Tracy Claxton is a former basketball player who amassed 2,420 career points in 1980 while at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Connecticut. She continued to hold the girls basketball record for Connecticut until 1987. At university, Claxton held the 1981 rebound season record with the Kansas Jayhawks women's basketball team and was with Kansas when they finished third at the 1981 AIAW National Division I Basketball Championship. The following year, Claxton held the rebound season record again while also holding the points season record for 1982. After leaving Kansas to join the Old Dominion Monarchs women's basketball team in 1983, Claxton was the NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player after she and Old Dominion won the 1985 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Bakersfield Magic are an expansion team in The Basketball League that began play in 2022. They play their home games in Bakersfield, California at the Riverlakes Ranch Community Center.

The 2022 TBL season is the fifth season of The Basketball League (TBL). The league expanded from 29 teams in the 2021 season to 44. For the 2022 season, the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) announced that they had agreed to inter-league series play with several teams from The Basketball League. The games played between the teams from the two leagues are included in their respective regular season standings for each league.
