Cornelius Tshepo Mashilane, better known by his stage name Cornelius SA, is a South African music producer, remixer and DJ. He creates house music containing elements of Electronic dance, deep house, techno and Afro house. [1]

Biography

Early life

Cornelius was born in Atteridgeville, South Africa. He grew up in Atteridgeville, before relocating to Soshanguve in Pretoria. [2] He fell in love with house music when he was in Primary School. He was taught how to DJ by his friend, first with vinyls and was later introduced to CDJs at the age of eighteen after completing his matric. [3]

Career

In 2015, he won the Bridges for Music, CTEMF 2015 Loco Dice Tour by Loco Dice. His single "Falling Again" which was released through DHN Records got the recognition from Tim White by featuring his music productions on his mixes. His EP titled Ambition also played a role in his music career, when his single "Endless" was featured on Vadim Balaev's DJ Top10 on Resident Advisor. [3]

In 2016, American record producer, Kenny Dope, signed him under his record label, Dopewax. Under Dopewax Cornelius released his single "Heaven", which featured Honey Molasses. The single created an international audience for him as he received support from musicians such as Jullian Gomes, MAQman and Tortured Soul. [4]

In 2018, he participated at the Red Bull Music Academy’s 20th Anniversary [1] and in Berlin, where he headlined the night with music producer Pearson Sound. [5] In that same year he worked on a project with Stay True Sounds and released his single "Feel It" featuring Zimbabwean-born singer Jackie Queens, [6] which was nominated in the 2018 Dance Music Awards South Africa for Best House Record of the Year and Best EDM Record of the Year. [7] His single "Keep Your Mouth Shut" has been featured on major local radio stations such as Metro FM, 5FM and The Deeper Shades of House hosted by Lars Behrenroth. He has performed alongside local musicians such as Kat La Kat, Jazzuelle, Sean Munnick, Swizz, Da Capo, Dwson and Bruce Loko. [8] He has also performed in music festivals and venues such as ERA in Cape Town, [2] House22 in Pretoria, [2] Kitcheners in Braamfontein, [2] Bushfire Festival in Swaziland, [9] Oppikoppi, [10] Black Coffee’s Summer Residency at Shimmy Beach in Cape Town, Ryan Murgatroyd’s SWOON at Wonderland Club in Cape Town, Cape Town Electronic Music Festival and the Smoking Dragon Festival in Drakensberg. In early 2020, he got signed to Armada Music becoming the first black African artist to sign under the label, and only the fifth in South Africa, joining Goldfish, Goodluck, Kyle Cassim and Protoculture. Under the label he released three single tracks, "Diamonds", "Faith" and "Free Your Mind". [11] [12] His single "Diamonds" charted on the UK’s Music Week top10 Cool Hits and later got recognition from International electronic music artists such as Above & Beyond featured it on their Groove Therapy radio show, Eelke Kleijn's Days like Nights Radio, Jono Grant’s Anjuna Family Radio, Chicane’s Sun:Sets Show, Maxim Lany’s residency on BBC One, Shane 54’s International Departures and Armada Music’s Radio Show. Oppikoppi was a music festival held in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, near the mining town of Northam. The festival started off focusing mostly on rock music, but gradually added more genres and now plays host to a complete mixed bag of genres. Anything from jazz, world music, house music, acoustic, comedy and all else in between can be heard on one of the multiple stages. Each year in the first week of August — except for 2017, when the festival was held in October — thousands of people used to flock to the farm to camp out in the bush and enjoy the music for several days. The festival features mostly South African bands, although international acts are included in the line-up.

Pretoria railway station is the central station in Pretoria, the executive capital of South Africa. It is located between Pretoria's central business district and Salvokop, in a 1910 building designed by Herbert Baker. Pretoria Taal, or Pretoria Sotho, is the urban lingua franca of Pretoria and the Tshwane metropolitan area in South Africa. It is a combination of Sepedi-Tswana and influences from Tsotsitaal, Afrikaans and other Bantu languages of the region. It is spoken by most black residents of all ages and levels of education in Tshwane. Though it is most commonly used in informal situations, it is also used in schools and at political events in which people have different language backgrounds. Standard Setswana and Northern Sotho are not commonly used in schools except in SeTswana and Northern Sotho lessons. Pretoria Taal is mutually intelligible with SeTswana and Northern Sotho.

Nthato Monde James Mokgata, known by his stage name Spoek Mathambo, is a South African artist, producer, singer-songwriter and rapper. Mathambo rose to fame in the late 2000s with his fusion of a wide array of musical influences. He is known for coining the term ‘Township Tech’, to describe his sound.

Themba Sekowe, known professionally as DJ Maphorisa, is a South African DJ, record producer, singer, and songwriter. As a record producer with a blend of house music, amapiano and afropop, he has worked with and has received production credits from several notable artists, including Wizkid, Sizwe Alakine, Kwesta, Uhuru, Drake, Black Coffee, Major Lazer, Runtown, C4 Pedro, TRESOR, Kabza De Small, Era Istrefi, Mpura, Young Stunna and Killer Kau. SPIJØNGET is the debut studio album by South African rapper, producer and graphic designer ByLwansta. The album consists of a series of three 4-track EPs, ultimately making up the 12-track studio album.

Jackie Queens is a Zimbabwean-born singer and songwriter. Her music is a combination of House containing elements from deep house and soulful house. She’s also the founder of Bae Electronica, a record label she launched to release her own music and also showcase other black women house musicians.

MFR Souls is a South African amapiano music duo founded in 2012 by Tumelo Nedondwe and Tumelo Mabe, both of whom are DJ and music producers from Katlehong in the East Rand of Johannesburg. Their hit single "Love You Tonight" was commercial success certified platinum in South Africa.

"Into Ingawe" is a single by South African DJ Sun-El Musician and South African singer Ami Faku, released on June 7, 2019 by EL World Music.

Black Motion is a South African afro house duo formed in Soshanguve, Gauteng and founded in 2010. The group is composed of Roy Thabo Mabogwane (Smol) and Kabelo Koma.

Kabelo Petrus Motha is a South African DJ and record producer, popularly known as Kabza De Small. He is a major figure in the amapiano genre of house music. Aside from his solo career, Motha is a member of the Scorpion Kings. Motha gained international recognition after the release of "Umshove", in 2018.

Mandisa Radebe professionally known as DBN Gogo, is a South African DJ and music producer. Born in Durban and raised in Pretoria, she gained local attention following release of her debut single "Khuza Gogo", which was certified platinum in South Africa.
