Creepy Castle is a 2016 side-scrolling role-playing video game created by Alaskan developer Dopterra. It was released on October 31, 2016, for Microsoft Windows through Steam. The game received positive reviews.
Creepy Castle is a side-scrolling role-playing game where the player controls Moth, an anthropomorphic insect adventurer. [1] The game is composed of a number of separate story campaigns, each of which spans multiple hours and has unique content and gameplay mechanics.
Visually, Creepy Castle resembles both NES games and earlier Atari titles.[ citation needed ] A number of built-in filters are included, allowing the game to appear as if it is running on a Game Boy or a CRT television among others.[ citation needed ] Mechanically, Creepy Castle sees the player navigating a large, multi-layered complex while collecting healing items and defeating enemies. Some areas of the map require special items to traverse, giving the game a key Metroidvania quality. Combat is turn-based and is accomplished through a number of different minigames that require the player to constantly adapt to new rule sets. [2]
Development of Creepy Castle was financed through a crowdfunding campaign on the website Kickstarter. The campaign was launched on September 4, 2014, with a goal of US$6,000; it ended on October 4, 2014, with US$8,485 raised by 271 people (141.42% of the original goal). [3]

Creepy Castle was met with positive reception. The game received an average score of 82/100 from six reviews on Metacritic, indicating "generally favorable reviews". [4] In a more lukewarm review, Jordan Helm of Hardcore Gamer wrote, "Though not quite matching the Everest-high peak of its contemporaries, Creepy Castle delivers enough charm and quirkiness to leave a satisfying impression." Sunless Sea is a survival/exploration role-playing video game with roguelike elements developed by Failbetter Games. The game was released on 6 February 2015 for Windows and OS X following a successful Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund the project. The game takes place in the universe of Failbetter's browser adventure game Fallen London, in which Victorian-era London has been moved beneath the Earth's surface to the edge of the Unterzee, a vast underground ocean. On 11 October 2016, the game's first downloadable content Zubmariner was released, which allows players to explore beneath the surface of the "zee". A sequel, Sunless Skies, was announced in September 2016. It surpassed its funding goals on Kickstarter and was released on 31 January 2019.

Pony Island is a video game developed and published by Canadian indie developer Daniel Mullins. As a metafictional game, the game has the player interact with what appears to be an old arcade cabinet game called "Pony Island". The player soon discovers the game is corrupted by Lucifer himself, who is trying to claim the player's soul. The player is aided by the soul of a previous player who helps the player access Pony Island's internal programming to get around the traps left by Lucifer and save not only his soul, but the many tormented souls that are trapped within the game's code.
Volgarr the Viking is a platform game developed by Crazy Viking Studios. Inspired by side-scrolling platform games from the 1980s like Rastan and Ghosts 'n Goblins, the game is a modern interpretation of the genre, while retaining both the graphical style and the difficulty level of the earlier titles. After a successful Kickstarter campaign to crowd-fund the production of the game, Volgarr the Viking was published on Steam by Adult Swim Games in September 2013 and is supported on Windows, OS X and Linux-based personal computers. In October 2014, Crazy Viking Studios went on to publish the Xbox One port, and all subsequent ports were self-published too.
