The fourth season of Criminal Minds premiered on CBS on September 24, 2008, and ended May 20, 2009.
In the season premiere "Mayhem", Sienna Guillory and Erik Palladino reprise as SSA Kate Joyner and Detective Cooper, respectively. Adoni Maropis guest-starred as Ben Abner, a member of the NYC Terrorist Cell who disguises as a paramedic, and Michael Steger guest-starred as Sam, another member of the cell. In the episode "The Angel Maker", Lauren Bowles guest-starred as Chloe Kelcher, the copycat killer and love interest of Courtland Bryce Ryan, aka "The Angel Maker", played by Neil Hopkins. Blake Lindsley guest-starred as Shara Carlino, another attempted copycat and admirer of Ryan. In the episode "Minimal Loss", Luke Perry guest-starred as Benjamin Cyrus, the leader of a religious cult known as the "Separatarian Sect". Jeff Fahey guest-starred as Leo Kane, an inmate and fervent libertarian who founded the Liberty Ranch. In the episode "Paradise", William Mapother and Robyn Lively guest-starred as Ian and Abby Corbin, a married couple who go on vacation, only to be held captive by Floyd Hansen.

In the episode "House on Fire", Tommy Dewey guest-starred as Tommy Wheeler, a serial arsonist who burns down a movie theater, killing everyone trapped in it. Shannon Lucio guest-starred as Tommy's sister Tina. In the episode "Conflicted", Jackson Rathbone guest-starred as Adam Jackson, a delusional serial killer who has a female alter-ego named Amanda. In the episode "The Big Wheel", Alex O'Loughlin guest-starred as Vincent Rowlings, a repentant serial killer who suffers from uncontrollable homicidal urges. In the episode "Amplification", Tamlyn Tomita guest-starred as Dr. Linda Kimura, who aids the BAU with the investigation of an anthrax outbreak that has infected several people. In the two-part season finale "To Hell and Back", Garret Dillahunt guest-starred as Mason Turner, whose developmentally disabled brother and partner in crime, Lucas, abducts a teenage girl and holds her captive at a barn in Canada. C. Thomas Howell reprises as George Foyet, who breaks into Aaron Hotchner's apartment and seemingly shoots him. Hotch's fate is left unknown until the premiere of the following season.

Criminal Minds is an American police procedural crime drama television series created and produced by Jeff Davis. The series premiered on CBS on September 22, 2005, and originally concluded on February 19, 2020; it was revived in 2022. It follows a group of criminal profilers who work for the FBI as members of its Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), using behavioral analysis and profiling to investigate crimes and find the unsub, the team's term for perpetrators. The show tells the story of the team as they work various cases and tackle their personal struggles.
Knight Rider is an American action television series that follows the 1982 television series of the same title created by Glen A. Larson and the 2008 television movie. The series aired on NBC from September 24, 2008 to March 4, 2009. The series stars Justin Bruening as Michael Traceur, the estranged son of Michael Knight; at the end of the pilot episode, Traceur renames himself Michael Knight II. The series also stars Deanna Russo as Sarah Graiman, Traceur's former girlfriend and love interest. Sarah is the daughter of Charles Graiman, played by Bruce Davison, is the creator of a new generation of KITT, which is voiced by Val Kilmer and based on a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR. The series was in production for just one season.
The ninth season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation premiered on CBS on October 9, 2008, and ended May 14, 2009. The series stars William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger and Laurence Fishburne.

The Mentalist is an American drama television series that ran from September 23, 2008, until February 18, 2015, broadcasting 151 episodes over seven seasons, on CBS. Created by Bruno Heller, who was also its executive producer, the show follows former "psychic" Patrick Jane, who is a consultant to the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and his boss, senior agent Teresa Lisbon, using the highly developed observational skills he previously employed to "read" people's minds.
The fifth season of CSI: NY originally aired on CBS between September 2008 and May 2009. It consisted of 25 episodes. Its regular time slot continued on Wednesdays at 10pm/9c. The premiere, "Veritas", concluded the story from the previous season's cliffhanger finale, "Hostage".
The fourth season of Prison Break, an American serial drama television series commenced airing in the United States on September 1, 2008, on Fox. It consists of 24 episodes, 16 of which aired from September to December 2008. After a hiatus, it resumed on April 17, 2009 and concluded on May 15, 2009 with a two episode finale. The fourth season was announced as the final season of Prison Break, however the series returned in a limited series format as Prison Break: Resurrection, which premiered on April 4, 2017.
The fifth season of Numbers, an American television series, first aired on October 3, 2008 and ended on May 15, 2009. The season premiere was moved back one week as a result of the presidential debates.
The sixth season of the police procedural drama NCIS premiered on September 23, 2008. The new NCIS director Leon Vance became a regular cast character and Agent Gibbs's new team members were introduced: NCIS Agents Michelle Lee from Legal, Daniel Keating from Cybercrime, and Special Agent Brent Langer from the FBI. Langer is killed in the first episode of the season. After the end of the second episode, McGee, Ziva, and Tony return to the team, while Lee and Keating are transferred back to Legal and Cybercrime, respectively.
The second season of Private Practice, the spin-off series to Grey's Anatomy, premiered on October 1, 2008, and concluded on April 30, 2009. The season consisted of 22 episodes.
Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior is an American police procedural drama starring Forest Whitaker and Janeane Garofalo that aired on CBS. The show debuted on February 16, 2011, as a spin-off of another series, Criminal Minds, aired on the same network, and is the second show in the Criminal Minds franchise. This edition's profiling team also worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) in Quantico, Virginia. In an April 2010 episode of Criminal Minds, during the show's fifth season, the original team met the new team and worked with them to find a San Francisco serial killer, with the episode serving as the new series' backdoor pilot.
The second season of Criminal Minds premiered on CBS on September 20, 2006, and ended on May 16, 2007. Lola Glaudini left the show after six episodes and was replaced by Paget Brewster three episodes later while Kirsten Vangsness was promoted to series regular.
The third season of Criminal Minds premiered on CBS on September 26, 2007 and ended May 21, 2008. The third season was originally to have featured 25 episodes; however, only 13 were completed before the Writers Guild of America strike (2007–08). Seven more episodes were produced after the strike, bringing the total number of episodes to 20 for the third season. Mandy Patinkin wanted to leave the series, since he loathed the violent nature of it. He was replaced by Joe Mantegna several episodes later.
The fifth season of Criminal Minds premiered on CBS on September 23, 2009 and ended May 26, 2010. Episode 18 was a pilot episode for the spin-off series Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior.
The third season of the American sitcom The Big Bang Theory aired on CBS from September 21, 2009 to May 24, 2010. It received higher ratings than the previous two seasons with over 15 million viewers. The first season of the American television series NCIS: Los Angeles premiered on CBS on September 22, 2009, and concluded on May 25, 2010. It is the first spin-off series of NCIS. The series is set in Los Angeles, California, and follows the stories of the members of the Office of Special Projects, an undercover division of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). The show and its characters were introduced during the sixth-season episodes of NCIS titled "Legend " and "Legend ". These episodes served as a backdoor pilot for the series.

The seventh season of Criminal Minds premiered on CBS in the United States on September 21, 2011. Both A. J. Cook and Paget Brewster were rehired by CBS to reprise their roles as Jennifer Jareau and Emily Prentiss. On February 15, 2012, Deadline Hollywood reported that Paget Brewster would leave the series, definitively, once season seven was over. All the other main actors on the show secured deals to return for the eighth season. The two-hour season finale, which took place on May 16, 2012, reveals Prentiss deciding to leave the BAU.
