Curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics was held in the town of Pinerolo, Italy from February 13 to February 24. It proved to be the sleeper hit in terms of television ratings in Italy. According to a CBC feature, curling at the 2006 Winter Games drew 5 million viewers, eclipsing ice hockey and figure skating. This, and the success of the Italian men's curling team created a surge of interest in curling within Italy, where there was no previous tradition of the sport and only a few hundred players.
World Curling, formerly the World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990 to the WCF and then to World Curling in 2024.

Participating 100 athletes from seven nations: Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Norway, Italy, Poland, Sweden. Pinerolo, a town of 35,000, located 50 km (31 mi) from Turin, was the host of 2006 Winter Olympics curling events. The Ice Sledge Hockey European Championships tournament was organised under the aegis of the EPC and the IPC by a Committee made up of Turin Olympic Park, operators of the Palaghiaccio, the Municipality of Pinerolo and the Alioth Sports Society, affiliated to the C.I.P. under its president Paolo Covato and vice president Tiziana Nasi.
Christopher Plys is an American curler from Duluth, Minnesota. He is a Junior World Champion and two-time National Men's Champion. He was the alternate for the United States men's team at the 2010 Winter Olympics and a member of both the men's team and the mixed doubles team at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

She was also an alternate for the Swedish team at the 2010 Ford World Women's Curling Championship in Swift Current, Canada.

The 2012 World Senior Curling Championships were held at the Tårnby Curling Club in Tårnby, Denmark from April 14 to 21. Tårnby has previously hosted the 2006 World Senior Curling Championships, the 2011 European Mixed Curling Championship, and the 2011 European Curling Championships' Group C competitions, and hosted the 2012 European Junior Curling Challenge. For the first time since 2009, the event was not held in conjunction with the same year's World Mixed Doubles Championship.
