The Switzerland men's national ice hockey team is a founding member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and is controlled by the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation. As of 2018 the Swiss team was ranked 7th in the world by the IIHF. From a bronze medal at the 1953 World Championships until the silver medal of 2013 and 2018. Switzerland did not win a medal at a major senior ice hockey tournament, coming close in 1992 and 1998, when they finished in 4th place at the World Championships both years.

Thomas Gustafsson is a Swedish composer and musician from Skövde, Västergötland, Sweden, north-east of Gothenburg. However, he is much more known nationally and internationally simply as Thomas G:son, his artistic name. Since 1998, Thomas has worked full-time as a songwriter for the company G:songs. In addition to writing and composing songs in many different musical genres for a living, he plays the guitar in the hard rock band, Masquerade. Thomas G:son is best known for the ninety songs he has written for national finals of twelve different countries for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC): fifty-two for Sweden, eleven for Spain, six for Norway, five for Denmark and Finland, three for Georgia, two for Poland & Malta, and one each for Cyprus, Latvia, Romania and Belgium. He has also reached the Eurovision Song Contest thirteen times, three times each for Sweden, Spain, and Georgia, twice for Cyprus and once each for Norway, Denmark and Malta. In 2012, G:son achieved his first victory as a winning composer at the Eurovision Song Contest with the entry "Euphoria".
The 2006–07 UEFA Champions League was the 15th season of UEFA's premier European club football tournament, the UEFA Champions League, since it was rebranded from the European Cup, and the 52nd season overall. The final was contested by Milan and Liverpool on 23 May 2007. Beforehand, the match was billed as a repeat of the 2005 final, the only difference being that the 2007 final was to be played at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece. Milan won the match 2–1 to claim their seventh European Cup, with both goals coming from Filippo Inzaghi. Dirk Kuyt scored for Liverpool.

The Chinese Taipei team sent 399 athletes to the games, making Chinese Taipei the fourth largest delegation after China, Japan, and South Korea. Despite Taiwan's small size, Chinese Taipei is a second-rank Asian sports power, finishing tenth in gold medals and seventh in overall medals at the 2006 Asian Games, a slight drop from its performance in the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea.

The 2006 Football League Championship play-off Final was an association football match played at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on 21 May 2006. It determined the third and final team in the 2005–06 football season to be promoted to the Premier League, the highest division in the English football league system. It was the last play-off final to be held at the Millennium Stadium, as the new Wembley Stadium was completed in time for the 2007 final.

The Football League play-offs for the 2005–06 season were held in May 2006, with the finals taking place at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff for the last time. The play-off semi-finals were played over two legs and were contested by the teams who finished in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th place in the Football League Championship and League One and the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th placed teams in the League Two table. The winners of the semi-finals advanced to the finals, with the winners of these matches gaining promotion for the following season.
