Cynthia Hotton (born 17 January 1969) is an Argentine politician,former National Deputy and candidate for Vice President. [1]
Cynthia Hotton was born on 17 January 1969 in Buenos Aires to Arturo Hotton Risler,whose parents had emigrated to Argentina from Australia at the beginning of the 20th century. [2]
Hotton began her political career with Ricardo López Murphy's party,Recreate for Growth,which merged with Republican Proposal. In March 2009,she launched the Valores para mi país party,formally breaking from the Republican Proposal in August of that same year. [1] Hotton promoted the conservative party as being the emphatic opposition to the legalization of abortion. [3] In May 2010,she was one of the primary opponents to same-sex marriage in Argentina in the Chamber of Deputies,leading demonstrations against the passing of same-sex marriage in July. [4]
During the devising of the 2011 budget for the Government of Argentina,Hotton denounced an alleged attempt at bribery through text messages. [5]
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Argentina since July 22, 2010. A bill to legalize same-sex marriage was passed by the Chamber of Deputies on May 5, 2010, and by the Senate on July 15. President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner gave her assent on July 21, and the law went into effect the following day.
Republican Proposal is a centre to centre-right political party in Argentina. It is usually referred to by its abbreviation, PRO. PRO was formed as an electoral alliance in 2005, but was transformed into a national party in 2010. It is the major component of the Juntos por el Cambio coalition, and its leader is former Argentine president Mauricio Macri.
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Chile since 10 March 2022. In June 2021, the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, announced that his government would sponsor a bill to legalize same-sex marriage. The Senate of Chile passed the legislation on 21 July 2021, and the Chamber of Deputies gave its approval on 23 November 2021. Disagreements on some aspects of the bill led to the formation of a mixed commission to discuss it. Both chambers of the National Congress approved an identical version of the bill on 7 December 2021. President Piñera signed the legislation into law on 9 December, and it was published in the Diario Oficial de la República de Chile on 10 December. The law took effect 90 days later, with the first same-sex marriages taking place on 10 March 2022.

On 10 August 2010 the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation ruled that same-sex marriages performed anywhere within Mexico must be recognized by the 31 states without exception, and fundamental spousal rights except for adoption have also applied to same-sex couples across the country.

She previously served as a member of the Salta Province Chamber of Deputies from 2005 to 2013, and as a city councillor in her hometown of Salta from 2015 to 2019.
