A snap election was held in Italy on 13–14 April 2008. The election came after President Giorgio Napolitano dissolved the Italian Parliament on 6 February 2008, following the defeat of the government of Prime Minister Romano Prodi in a January 2008 Senate vote of confidence and the unsuccessful tentative appointment of Franco Marini with the aim to change the current electoral law. Under Italian law, elections must be held within 70 days of the dissolution. The voting determined the leader of Italy's 62nd government since the end of World War II. The coalition led by ex-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi from The People of Freedom party defeated that of former Mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni of the Democratic Party.

Spanish Solidarity was a Spanish far-right political party founded by former Civil Guard Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Tejero while in prison for his role in the failed 1981 Spanish coup. The party presented candidates to both houses of parliament for the 1982 general elections; its objective was to pass an act granting Tejero the necessary parliamentary immunity to avoid facing military criminal proceedings. Its president was Tejero himself, while the vice-presidents were Ángel López-Montero Juárez, Carlos Fernández Barallobre and María Jesús González de Castejón Moreno.

Osvaldo Ramón López is an Argentine lawyer and politician, who was a National Senator for Tierra del Fuego from 2011 to 2013. He took office in the Senate in replacement of José Carlos Martínez following Martínez's death in 2011. Upon being sworn in, López became the first openly gay member of the Argentine Congress.
