The team dressage event, part of the equestrian program at the 2004 Summer Olympics, used the results of the first round of the individual dressage to award rankings. That round was held on 20 August and 21 August 2004 at the Olympic Equestrian Centre on the outskirts of Markópoulo, in the Attica region of Greece. Like all other equestrian events, the dressage competition was mixed gender, with both male and female athletes competing in the same division. 10 teams, each consisting of four horse and rider pairs, entered the contest.
Theodora Elisabeth Gerarda "Anky" van Grunsven is a Dutch dressage champion who is the only rider to record three successive Olympic wins in the same event. Along with her Olympic successes, she has won numerous medals at the World Equestrian Games (WEG), and is the only rider to have competed at every WEG since they began in 1990. Between 1990 and 2006, she competed at the Games in dressage, but in 2010 she was named as part of the Dutch reining team, marking a major change in discipline.
Petronella Theodora Maria "Ellen" Bontje is an equestrian from The Netherlands, who won the silver medal in the Team Dressage Event at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. She did so alongside Anky van Grunsven, Coby van Baalen, and Arjen Teeuwissen. In the individual competition Bontje finished in sixth position.
Eva Maria "Evi" Pracht was a Canadian equestrian who competed in dressage in the 1984 Summer Olympics and was part of the bronze-medallist team at the 1988 Summer Olympics.
Heinz Pollay was a German horse rider who competed in dressage from the late 1930s to the early 1950s. Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won two golds and one bronze.
Liselott Linsenhoff was a German equestrian and Olympic champion. Competing in the mixed dressage on the famous Swedish stallion Piaff, she won a gold medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics with the West German team, and an individual gold medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics, becoming the first woman gold medalist in this event.
Klaus Balkenhol is a German equestrian and Olympic champion. He won a gold medal in team dressage at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona with the team from Germany. Balkenhol is the author of several dressage books. He is an avid member of Xenophen, and like Philippe Karl petitions against the use of rollkur. Balkenhol's earlier riding career consisted of being a mounted policeman. He was also the coach of the U.S. Olympic team. He also received a gold medal with the German team in 1996. At present Balkenhol is the trainer of Olympic equestrian Laura Bechtolsheimer.
Alexandra Simons de Ridder is a German equestrian and Olympic champion. She won a gold medal in team dressage at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney with the team from Germany.
Ivan Kizimov was a Soviet and Russian equestrian and Olympic champion. He was born in Novocherkassk. He won an individual gold medal in dressage at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, and a gold medal in team dressage at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. He won a bronze medal in individual dressage at the 1970 Dressage World Championship, and team medals in 1966 (bronze), 1970 (gold) and 1974 (silver). He also won eight medals in total at the European Dressage Championships, five silver and three bronze medals.
Christilot Hanson-Boylen is a Canadian equestrian who competed as a member of the Canadian Equestrian Team in Dressage at six Olympic Games.
Marianne Gossweiler is a Swiss Equestrian. She placed seventh in individual dressage and won a silver medal in team dressage at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She a won bronze medal in team dressage at the 1968 Summer Olympics. She is married to sports rower Urs Fankhauser. For some time she was an anti-suffragist and was against the introduction of women's suffrage in Canton Schaffhausen in 1967.
Ashley Holzer is a Canadian-born equestrian specializing in dressage, who has been representing the United States since 2017. She was born in Toronto, the daughter of Moreen and Ian Nicoll, and is married to Charles Holzer. Representing Canada, she won a bronze medal in team dressage at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, together with teammates Cynthia Neale-Ishoy, Eva Pracht and Gina Smith. She also competed at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics.
Gina Smith is a Canadian equestrian. She won a team bronze medal as part of the Canadian Equestrian Team in dressage at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, together with teammates Cynthia Neale-Ishoy, Eva Pracht and Ashley Nicoll-Holzer. She also competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Cynthia Jane "Cindy" Brogdon is an American former basketball player who competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics. Brogdon was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002.
Inna Volodymyrivna Logutenkova is a Ukrainian Olympic dressage rider. She represented Ukraine at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she placed 41st in the individual competition. Logutenkova also competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo where she finished 47th in the individual competition.
Belinda Trussell is a Canadian Olympic dressage rider. Representing Canada, she competed at two Summer Olympics. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece she placed 9th in the team competition and 36th in the individual competition. 12 years later, she achieved 27th position in the individual event.
Adrienne Lyle is an American Olympic dressage rider. Representing the United States, she competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London where she finished 37th in the individual competition, and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo where she was won a silver medal in the team competition. After qualifying for the individual Grand Prix Freestyle at the 2020 Olympics she withdrew from the competition out of concern for her horse, Salvino.
Dynasty (1977–1989) was a dark bay Hanoverian gelding, ridden for Canada by Cindy Neale-Ishoy in dressage competitions. During their competition career, the pair won medals at the Olympic Games and the World Cup Finals. Dynasty died in 1989 following a colic surgery.
Chris von Martels is a Canadian equestrian athlete. He won team silver and individual bronze at the 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto. Von Martels represented Canada at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, finishing 39th in the individual competition.
