A large chunk of his civil service years were spent in the banking division (later department) of the Union finance ministry as a key official who helped draft laws that led up to bank nationalisation and thereafter to a supervisory structure for public sector banks.

Banking career

He served as the twelfth Chairman of State Bank of India from 13 May 1985 until 12 May 1989. [1] [2]

After his retirement from the State Bank of India in 1989, he was succeeded by Atal V. as the Chairman of State Bank of India. [1] [2]

It was during his time at the State Bank of India, that the drive towards computerization of branches was begun. The State Bank of India was also rated by the international rating agency the S&P Global Ratings for the first time during his tenure. [6]

Later career

After having retired from the State Bank of India in 1989, he held a number of executive posts in the private sector which included: [7]

He has also served as the president of the Society for the Preservation of Satyajit Ray Archives. [3]

In 1991, he became the Managing Trustee of the Sameeksha Trust, which is the publisher of Economic and Political Weekly. [8]

Jagdish Khattar was an Indian businessman and civil servant. He was the managing director of Maruti Udyog Limited from 1999 to 2007. He first joined Maruti in July 1993 as a director (marketing). He was appointed managing director in 1999 as the government nominee, and reappointed in May 2002 as the Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) nominee. During his tenure, he oversaw a restructuring of the company in the face of foreign competitors entering the Indian market.

Sir Chintaman Dwarakanath Deshmukh, was an Indian civil servant and the first Indian to be appointed the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India in 1943 by the British Raj authorities. He subsequently served as the Finance Minister in the Union Cabinet (1950–1956). It was during this time that he also became a founding member of the Governing Body of NCAER, the National Council of Applied Economic Research in New Delhi, India's first independent economic policy institute established in 1956 at the behest of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. After resignation from Union Cabinet he worked as Chairman of UGC (1956–1961). He served as Vice-Chancellor of University of Delhi (1962–67). He was also President of Indian Statistical Institute from 1945 to 1964, Honorary Chairman of National Book Trust (1957–60). He founded India International Center in 1959 and served as Lifetime President of it. He was also chairman of Indian Institute of Public Administration.

He is also on the Board of Directors of over 45 companies and organisations including IDBI Bank, LIC, ONGC, BHEL, and more. He also serves as an Independent Director of Tourism Finance Corporation of India. In 2003, He was also appointed by Government of India and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as Chairman of the Technical Experts Committee for Punjab & Sind Bank's strategic turnaround. In 2019, Ravi also joined SBI Payments Services Pvt. Ltd as one of the Board Directors. Before joining BSE, Ravi served on boards of various companies such as, UTI Company Pvt Ltd., SMERA Ratings, SBI-SG Global Securities, STCI Finance, and BOI Merchant Bankers. He also serves as a member of SEBI's takeover panel and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). S Ravi had been appointed as the independent director of the EbixCash Private Limited in June 2021, a subsidiary of Ebix, Inc. a leading international supplier of On-Demand software and E-commerce services to the insurance, financial, healthcare and e-learning industries. He is also a frequent speaker at regulatory bodies, like ICAI, RBI and SEBI, Mr. S Ravi is passionate about sports and issues related to equal rights of women, global climate change and education for all. The Board of PCBL at its meeting held on 31 January 2023 has appointed Dr. Sethurathnam Ravi as a Non-Executive Independent Director of the Company for an initial term of five consecutive years with effect from 15 March 2023.

V. T. Dehejia was an Indian career civil servant and bank executive. He is most notable for having served as the fifth Chairman of State Bank of India.
