Kannur is one of the 14 districts along the west coast in the state of Kerala,India. The city of Kannur is the district headquarters and gives the district its name. The old name,Cannanore,is the anglicized form of the Malayalam name "Kannur". Kannur district is bounded by Kasaragod District to the north,Kozhikode district to the south,Mahédistrict to the southwest and Wayanad District to the southeast. To the east,the district is bounded by the Western Ghats,which forms the border with the state of Karnataka. The Arabian Sea lies to the west. Paithalmala is the highest point in Kannur District (1,372m). Enclosed within the southern part of the district is the Mahédistrict of the Union Territory of Puducherry. The district was established in 1957.
Ayillyath Kuttiari Gopalan,popularly known as A. K. Gopalan or AKG,was an Indian communist politician. He was one of 16 Communist Party of India members elected to the first Lok Sabha in 1952. Later he became one of the founding members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Pinarayi Vijayan is an Indian politician who serves as the Chief Minister of Kerala since 25 May 2016. A member of the politburo of the Communist Party of India (Marxist),he is the longest-serving secretary of the Kerala State Committee of the CPI(M) (1998–2015). He has also served as Minister of Electric Power and Co-operatives during the third E. K. Nayanar ministry. Vijayan won a seat in the May 2016 Kerala Legislative Assembly election and 2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election as the CPI(M) candidate for Dharmadom constituency and was selected as the leader of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and became the 12th Chief Minister of Kerala. He is the first chief minister from Kerala to be re-elected after completing a full term in office. In 2022,he also became the longest-continuous serving chief minister of Kerala surpassing C. Achutha Menon who had been the first to remain in office for 2364 consecutive days.
Narayanan Vaghul was an Indian banker and philanthropist,who served as chairman and managing director of ICICI Bank,one of India's largest private sector banks. He was a recipient of the Padma Bhushan,India's third highest civilian honour,in 2010.

Bhatt,on 7 April 2011 and retired on 30 September 2013. Prior to that he was the Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of the International Division of SBI.
