Dallas Frasca is an Australian roots rock band from Melbourne led by its namesake front-woman, Dallas Frasca. The band's 2015 album Love Army peaked at number 29 on the ARIA Charts.

History

Namesake

Born in Adelaide, South Australia and raised in Wangaratta, Victoria, Dallas Frasca is the lead singer of the eponymous band Dallas Frasca. [1] Frasca is a descendant of opera singer Dame Nellie Melba. [2] Frasca began her singing career at age 18, when she discovered her singing ability at a friend's party. [1]

In 2008, Frasca sang for Australian rock band Midnight Oil in Sydney, in support of Amnesty International. [1]

In early 2009, Frasca performed as one of seven artists from seven continents of the planet for International Earth Day in Montreal, Canada. [1] [3]

In 2018, Frasca was nominated for Artistic Excellence Award at the 2018 Australian Women in Music Awards.

Band

In 2006, the band won triple j's "Light Your Fuse" competition. [4]

In 2012 Dallas Frasca came third for their song "All My Love" in the AAA category of the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) [5] which had more than 16,000 entries. The song was also re-recorded by Czech artist Lenny  [ cs ] where it became a top ten.[ citation needed ]

In August 2012, Dallas Frasca helped launch Bob Irwin's wildlife foundation. [6]

In April 2015 the band released their third studio album, Love Army recorded by New York-based producer Andy Baldwin. The album peaked at number 29 on the ARIA Charts, becoming the group's first top 50 album.

On 16 September 2016, the three-piece (no bass) released the EP, Dirt Buzz and launched their own independent record label, Spank Betty Records.

Rogue Traders is an Australian electronic rock band formed in Melbourne, Victoria in 2002 by mainstay James Ash on keyboards. In 1989, Ash met fellow original member Steve Davis in London while both were working as DJs. Before forming Rogue Traders, the pair had worked together on many projects, including the dance music act Union State, which relocated to Melbourne in 1992. The group's name comes from the 1999 drama film, Rogue Trader. They were joined in 2004 by soap opera actress, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, on lead vocals, Cameron McGlinchey on drums and Tim Henwood on guitar. Davis continued as a behind-the-scenes member, contributing to the songwriting process but not making any public appearances with the group.

Wendy Joan Matthews is a Canadian-born Australian singer-songwriter who has been a member of Models and Absent Friends and is a solo artist. She released Top 20 hit singles in the 1990s including "Token Angels", "Let's Kiss ", "The Day You Went Away" and "Friday's Child" with Top 20 albums, You've Always Got The Blues, Émigré, Lily, The Witness Tree and her compilation, Stepping Stones. She has won six Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards. According to rock music historian, Ian McFarlane she provides "extraordinary, crystal-clear vocals [...] a soulfulness that was the mark of a truly gifted singer".

Dallas Crane are a triple ARIA Award nominated Australian alternative rock band from Melbourne. Their self-titled third album was released on 10 July 2004, and peaked in the ARIA Albums Chart top 50. Its lead single, "Dirty Hearts", debuted in the related ARIA Singles Chart top 50.

Pseudo Echo are an Australian new wave band that were formed in 1982 by Brian Canham, Pierre Gigliotti, and Tony Lugton (keyboards). Later members included Anthony Argiro (drums), James Leigh (keyboards), and Vince Leigh (drums). In the 1980s, Pseudo Echo had multiple Australian top 20 hits with "Listening", "A Beat for You", "Don't Go", "Love an Adventure", and "Living in a Dream". Renée Rebecca Geyer was an Australian singer who was one of that country's finest jazz, soul and R&B musicians. She released 15 studio albums with Moving Along (1977) and Tenderland (2003) both reaching number 11 on the Australian charts. Geyer's singles success as a solo artist in Australia were with "It's a Man's Man's World", "Heading in the Right Direction" and "Stares and Whispers" in the 1970s and "Say I Love You" in the 1980s. The latter also reached number one in New Zealand. Boy & Bear are an Australian indie folk band formed in 2009, consisting of David Hosking, Killian Gavin, Tim Hart, Jonathan Hart, and David Symes (bass). The band has released two EPs and five studio albums. The first two albums, Moonfire and Harlequin Dream, reached the top ten of the Australian albums chart. Their third album, Limit of Love, was released on 9 October 2015, in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Canada, and on 30 October in the UK and Europe. On 27 September 2019, after a four-year break, they released their long-awaited fourth studio album, Suck on Light. After yet another break between 2020 and 2022 due to the COVID pandemic, the band finally released their self-titled fifth studio album on 26 May 2023.
