Coonan was brought up in Haringey, in north London, moving to Plymouth, Devon in his teens, where he took up acting lessons. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. [1]
After graduating, Coonan spent over ten years working almost exclusively in theatre, working with companies including The National Theatre, The Royal Court Theatre and Howard Barker's theatre company, The Wrestling School. Coonan then had roles in various television series, including a wrongly convicted murderer in Silent Witness , an investigating policeman in the BBC crime drama Mayday , and a violent alcoholic in Mike Leigh's revival of his classic play Ecstasy , which Leigh directed.
In 2013, Coonan joined the cast of the BBC soap opera EastEnders , playing Carl White, [2] having previously played David Priors in 2011. [3] He was originally contracted to appear in 28 episodes as Carl over a six-month period, but filmed over 60 episodes. [4] Coonan departed the show in January 2014. Since leaving, Coonan has again returned to the stage, playing 'Marco' in Arthur Miller's classic play 'A View From the Bridge' at The Liverpool Playhouse and 'Black Dog' in The Royal National Theatre's 2015 production of 'Treasure Island'. In 2016 Coonan appeared in the Discovery Channel miniseries Harley and the Davidsons playing William A. Davidson, one of the founders of the Harley Davidson motorcycle company.[ citation needed ] He will be involved in filming History Channel's eight part drama documentary 'The War on Drugs' in early 2017 [ citation needed ] as well as the BBC drama 'Hard Sun', created by Neil Cross, the writer of 'Luther'.

Ben Richards is a British stage and television actor and dancer. Richards studied dance from an early age and later took part in theatre. He gained supporting roles in London's West End and gradually filled the role of the lead. After small roles in two films, Richards began his television career with guest roles in various British serials. In 2004, he joined the regular cast of the ITV drama Footballers' Wives and after the series ended he resumed theatre work. Richards went on to secure roles in Holby City and The Bill. While working on the latter, Richards said that he would always pursue his career in theatre. After leaving the series he returned to theatre work. In 2015, he joined the cast of the soap opera Hollyoaks and finished filming the following year. He then returned to stage roles in the West End.

Carl White is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, played by Daniel Coonan. He first appears in the 4660th episode, originally broadcast in the United Kingdom on 20 June 2013. Carl is the ex-boyfriend of Kirsty Branning, and his storylines include tracking down cash owed to him by Derek Branning – which Ian Beale has used to open a restaurant; trying to win Kirsty back; a relationship with Roxy Mitchell ; his feuds with Roxy's cousin Phil and Derek's brother Max ; blackmailing Ian for money; and developing a conflict with Roxy's sister Ronnie that ultimately results in his downfall. He became the show's main antagonist up until his death on 1 January 2014. The character was axed in September 2013 and departed in the episode first broadcast in the UK on 1 January 2014, a joint broadcast of episodes 4775 and 4776, after being killed by Ronnie.

The Slater family are a fictional family from the BBC soap opera EastEnders, that have appeared since Episode 1,997, first broadcast in September 2000.
