Biography

Jalan was born on 7 April 1978 in Ranchi. He completed his schooling from the Scindia school, Gwalior. in 1996, he went to Mumbai and studied fashion design at National Institute of Fashion Technology. He started his career as a costume designer in the 2003 film Matrubhoomi. Jalan has worked with many renowned actors and film directors in Bollywood, including Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Deepa Mehta, Rajat Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Dibaakar Banerjee, Vidya Balan, Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, Varun Dhawan, Sharat Katariya and Maneesh Sharma. The film was released on 21 March 2014. It was the opening film at the 8th annual Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival (MISAFF) 2014 in Toronto. It is Kapoor's fifth feature film and was dedicated to his idols and teachers: filmmakers Mani Kaul and Kumar Shahani. At the 2015 Screen Awards ceremony, Ankhon Dekhi won the awards for Best Supporting Actress for Seema Pahwa, Best Story and Best Ensemble Cast. The movie instills a sense of empiricism through personal choice and experience where Bauji rejects to believe anything he is told unless he has seen it himself and whenever people say something is one way or another, he nods that it might be, without acknowledging it. Ronkini Gupta is a Hindustani classical vocalist and playback singer who won the Saregamapa World Series reality show aired on Zee TV in the 2004. She sang the critically acclaimed song "Rafu" in Tumhari Sulu (2017) for which she was nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. She sang two songs in the 2018 released film Sui Dhaaga for Anu Malik, "Chaav Laaga" with Papon and "Tu Hi Aham" which is her solo song in the film. She is a Sangeet Visharad and her singing repertoire covers Khyaal, Fusion, and Bollywood. She has been recipient of many awards such as the Saregamapa World Series, Doverlane National Merit and Artist Aloud Award. She has performed with Elan on many stages and has also travelled the world with the Indian Broadway show "Bharati" as the lead vocalist. She composed in Mr Ya Miss (2005) and lent voice to Jai Maharashtra Dhaba Bhatinda (2013), Aankhon Dekhi (2014), Pyaar Vali Love Story (2014), Hrudyantar (2017), Taleem (2016), "Rafu" in Tumhari Sulu (2017), "Chaav Laaga" with Papon and "Tu Hi Aham" as a solo song in Sui Dhaaga. Both the songs in Sui Dhaaga received widespread acclaim and firmly established her as a noteworthy singer of her generation. She is widely known for her ability to superbly blend her classical training with contemporary musicality.

<i>Sui Dhaaga</i> 2018 film directed by Sharat Katariya

Sui Dhaaga: Made in India is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Sharat Katariya and produced by Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma. Edited by Charu Shree Roy, the film stars Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma as a married couple in small-town India who begin their own small-scale clothing business. It was shot in Chanderi, Bhopal, Delhi and Ghaziabad. The film was released in India on 28 September 2018; it received positive reviews from critics and proved to be a commercial success at the box office, It received five nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards including Best Actress (Critics) for Sharma and Best Supporting Actress for Yamini Dass, who played Dhawan's mother in the film.
