Delias ganymedes is a species of pierine butterfly endemic to the Philippines. It has been recorded from Mount Canlaon (Negros Island), Mount Madia-as (Panay Island) and Mount Halcon (Mindoro Island). [1]

The wingspan is 55–60 mm. [2]

Mindoro

Mindoro is the seventh largest island in the Philippines by land area with a total of 10,571 km2 and with a total population of 1,331,473 as of 2015. It is located off the southwestern coast of Luzon and northeast of Palawan. Mindoro is divided into two provinces: Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro. San Jose is the largest settlement on the island with a total population of 143,430 inhabitants as of 2015. The southern coast of Mindoro forms the northeastern extremum of the Sulu Sea. Panay Island in the Philippines

Panay is the sixth-largest and fourth most-populous island in the Philippines, with a total land area of 12,011 km2 (4,637 sq mi) and with a total population of 4,477,247 as of 2015. Panay comprises 4.4 percent of the entire population of the country. The City of Iloilo is its largest settlement with a total population of 447,992 inhabitants. It is a triangular island, located in the western part of the Visayas. It is about 160 km (99 mi) across. It is divided into four provinces: Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Iloilo, all in the Western Visayas Region. Just closely off the mid-southeastern coast lies the island-province of Guimaras. It is located southeast of the island of Mindoro and northwest of Negros across the Guimaras Strait. The Philippine archipelago is one of the world's great reservoirs of biodiversity and endemism. The archipelago includes over 7000 islands, and a total land area of 300,780 km².

Kan-Laon is the name of an ancient Hiligaynon deity. During pre-Hispanic times, the deity was worshiped by indigenous people as their Supreme Ruler. In the Visayan language, Kan-Laon means "One Who Is the Ruler Of Time."

The Hiligaynon people, often referred to as Ilonggo people or Panayan people, are a Visayan ethnic group whose primary language is Hiligaynon, an Austronesian language of the Visayan branch native to Panay, Guimaras, and Negros. Over the years, inter-migrations and intra-migrations have contributed to the diaspora of the Hiligaynons to different parts of the Philippines. Today, the Hiligaynon form the majority in the provinces of Iloilo, Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Capiz, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and North Cotabato.

Large Mindoro forest mouse

The large Mindoro forest mouse is a species of rodent in the family Muridae, from the genus Apomys. It is found only in the Philippines. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is a large mouse with large feet, a long tail and an elongated snout which is morphologically unique within its genus. It is covered in soft fur which is mostly dark brown in colour. Its closest relative is thought to be the Luzon montane forest mouse, based on genetic and morphological similarities.

Mount Halcon

Mount Halcon and is a mountain located in the island of Mindoro in the Philippines. Its height of 2,586 metres (8,484 ft) makes it the 18th highest peak in the Philippines. Its steep slopes have earned it the reputation of being the most difficult mountain to climb in the country. The first documented ascent was made in 1906 by botanist Elmer Drew Merrill and a party of forestry and military personnel.

Mount Madia-as

Mount Madia-as is a massive dormant volcano, it is the highest peak in the island of Panay Philippines and the second highest mountain in the Visayas, after Mount Kanlaon in Negros island. With an elevation of 6,946 feet above sea level, it is ranked 9th most Prominence mountain in List of Ultras of the Philippines and 63rd highest in List of islands by highest point in the world. It is famous for its diverse flora and fauna, Mossy forest and 14 waterfalls down to its slopes.

It is located on the border of Barbaza, Antique and Jamindan, Capiz. With an elevation of 6,804 feet above sea level. Mount Nangtud is rich for its diverse flora and fauna. It is part of Central Panay Mountain Range, the longest mountain range in Panay Island. Because of its geographic location, on the central part of the island, it is one of the most difficult and most challenging mountains to climb in Panay alongside with Mount Madja-as and Mount Baloy. The nearest peaks are Mount Tigas, Mount Dumara, Mount Bucayan, Mount Sipanag, Mount Dalangnan, Mount Nausang, Mount Balabag and overlooking Mount Madia-as to the northwest and Mount Baloy to the southeast.

Poritia philota simoncolini is a butterfly of the family Lycaenidae. This subspecies of Poritia philota was first described by Hisakazu Hayashi and Noel Mohagan in 2017. It is found only on Mt. Baco of Mindoro island in the Philippines. Its forewing length is 14–17 mm. It is distinguishable from the subspecies P. p. mindora from Mt. Halcon on Mindoro Island by the markings of the upperside and underside.

Greater Negros–Panay rain forests

The Greater Negros–Panay rain forests ecoregion covers the central Visayan Islands in the Philippines, including the islands of Panay, Negros, Cebu, Masbate, Sibuyan, Ticao, Guimaras, Romblon, Tablas, Siquijor, and Bohol, but excludes Leyte and Samar. During the last ice age, these were all on the same island. The lack of a land bridge to Asia during the ice age kept most Asian megafauna, including elephants and tigers, from reaching the Philippines and the Visayan Islands, which hosts many unique and endemic species with some exclusive only to an island.
