The Democratic Party (Macedonian : Демократска партија на Македонија, Demokratska Partija na Makedonija, DPM) was a political party in Macedonia.

Macedonian language Language spoken in North Macedonia

The Macedonian language is a South Slavic language spoken as a first language by around two million people, principally in North Macedonia and the Macedonian diaspora, with a smaller number of speakers throughout the transnational region of Macedonia. It is the official language of North Macedonia and a recognized minority language in parts of Albania, Romania, and Serbia.

History

The party first contested national elections in 1994, when it ran in the parliamentary elections that year. It received 1.5% of the vote in the first round and 1% in the second. It won a single seat, [1] taken by Tomislav Stojanovski. [2] The 1998 elections saw it run in an alliance with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The alliance won four seats, all of which were taken by the LDP. [1]

The DPM contested the 2002 elections alone, but received just 0.2% of the vote and remained seatless. It did not contest any further elections. [3]

1994 Macedonian general election

General elections were held in Macedonia on 16 October 1994 to elect a President and Assembly, with a second round of Assembly elections on 30 October. The presidential election was won by Kiro Gligorov of the Alliance for Macedonia, whilst the parties forming Alliance for Macedonia also won the Assembly elections with 95 of the 120 seats. However, the second round of the Assembly elections were boycotted by VMRO-DPMNE and the Democratic Party, as they claimed there had been irregularities in the first round.

1990 Macedonian parliamentary election

Parliamentary elections were held in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia on 11 November 1990, with a second round on 25 November. They were the first competitive elections in the country's history. VMRO-DPMNE emerged as the largest party, winning 38 of the 120 seats.
