Densuș (Hungarian : Demsus, German : Demsdorf) is a commune in Hunedoara County, Transylvania, Romania and the site of Densuș Church. It is composed of seven villages: Criva, Densuș, Hățăgel (Hacazsel), Peșteana (Nagypestény), Peștenița (Kispestény), Poieni (Pojény), and Ștei (Stejvaspatak).
The commune is situated at an altitude of 392 m (1,286 ft), in the foothills of the Poiana Ruscă Mountains, north of the Retezat Mountains. It lies on the banks of Râul Galben and its tributaries, the Breazova and Pârâul Fierului.
Densuș is located in the southwestern part of the county, on the border with Caraș-Severin County. It is situated in the historical and ethnographical area known as Țara Hațegului, 15 km (9.3 mi) west of its hub, the town of Hațeg. The commune is crossed by national road DN68 , which connects Hațeg to Caransebeș.
The St. Nicholas Church in Densuș is the oldest Orthodox stone church in Romania, dating from the 12th century. It has a square plan, with the nave pierced by a tower, resting on a vault and equipped with a deep semicircular apse. The entire construction is covered with stone slabs, with most of the material probably coming from nearby Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, the capital of Roman Dacia. Inside the church there are 15th century mural paintings made by artist Ștefan that show Jesus wearing Romanian traditional clothes.

Hațeg Island was a large offshore island in the Tethys Sea which existed during the Late Cretaceous period, probably from the Cenomanian to the Maastrichtian ages. It was situated in an area corresponding to the region around modern-day Hațeg, Hunedoara County, Romania. Maastrichtian fossils of small-sized dinosaurs have been found in the island's rocks. It was formed mainly by tectonic uplift during the early Alpine orogeny, caused by the collision of the African Plate and Eurasian Plate towards the end of the Cretaceous. There is no real present-day analog, but overall, the island of Hainan is perhaps closest as regards climate, geology and topography, though still not a particularly good match. The vegetation, for example, was of course entirely distinct from today, as was the fauna.

The Sânpetru Formation is an early Maastrichtian geologic formation. Dinosaur remains are among the fossils that have been recovered from the formation. It is located in Romania, near Sânpetru village, part of Sântămăria-Orlea commune. It forms a component of the Hațeg Island fauna.
