The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD) (formerly Department of Women) is a department of the Government of South Africa with the responsibility for women, youth and persons with disabilities. [1] As of May 2019, the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities is Maite Nkoana-Mashabane. [2] The DWYPD oversees critical entities such as the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), established primarily to address challenges faced by the nation’s youth. Other entities such as SA Youths also contribute in solving challenges faced by South Africa's youth.

With respect to human trafficking, Saudi Arabia was designated, together with Italy, Japan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Israel, Iceland, Norway, and Angola, as a Tier 2 country by the United States Department of State in its 2021 Trafficking in Persons Report required by the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000 on which this article was originally based. Tier 2 countries are "countries whose governments do not fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards, but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with those standards". The 2021 report shows some effort by the Kingdom to address the problems, but continues to classify the Kingdom as a Tier 2 country.

South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is a national agency of the South African government created in April 2005 to administer South Africa's social security system, including by distributing social grants, on behalf of the Department of Social Development (DSD). It is under the oversight, but not the operational control, of DSD and the Ministry of Social Development. Established in terms of the Social Assistance Act of 2004 and South African Social Security Agency Act of 2004, SASSA is a public entity in terms of Schedule 3A of the Public Finance Management Act. As of 2022 its chief executive officer was Busisiwe Memela-Khambula.

Maite Emily Nkoana-Mashabane is a South African politician who served as the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities. She was Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform from 2018 to 2019, and previously served as Minister of International Relations and Cooperation from 2009 to 2018. Nkoana-Mashabane is also a former member of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress (ANC).

South Africans with disabilities constitute a sizeable proportion of the population, and their status in society is extremely varied in a developing nation with socio-economic inequality and a history of apartheid. Wealthy city dwellers have access to a wide range of assistance, whereas the poor struggle for even the basic necessities of life.

Youth in South Africa constituted 37% of the population in 2010, numbering 19.1 million individuals. South Africa's National Youth Commission Act, 1996, defines youth as those from ages 15-34 years. Like many other developing countries, South Africa's population as a whole is quite young. The elevated level of youth population is expected to exist for the next 20–30 years; the large proportion of working-age population presents South Africa with a time period of opportunity for human capital and economic development.

The Minister of Small Business Development is a Minister in the Cabinet of South Africa.

Disability affects many people in Zimbabwe in both rural and urban areas. In spite of services provided by the government, philanthropists and welfare agencies, people with disabilities and their families often face several barriers. Philanthropist, Jairos Jiri, started services for people with disability in Zimbabwe in the 1940s. He is regarded as the father or founder of disability work in Zimbabwe.

Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu is the South African deputy minister in Department of Social Development. She has been a member of parliament since 1999 and now. She is serving a fourth term in the Jacob Zuma cabinet. She was Deputy Minister of Public Works and Women, Children and Persons with Disability. Along with Michael Masutha she is one of only two leaders with disability in the current regime. She is a motivational speaker, HIV & AIDS activist, business woman and co-founded Disabled Youth South Africa. She was instrumental in drafting the country’s UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities’ Country Report.

In South Africa the Department of Public Enterprises is the shareholder representative of the South African Government with oversight responsibility for state-owned enterprises in key sectors. Some companies are not directly controlled by the Department of Public Enterprises, but by various other departments. Further, not all state owned entities are registered as companies.

The country has been passing laws and policies to help people with disabilities in Zambia, however, social stigma and other factors sometimes interfere in people being able to access services and assistance. In addition, the HIV epidemic in Zambia also has a significant impact on the lives of people with disabilities.

Khumbudzo Phophi Silence Ntshavheni is a South African politician serving as Minister in the Presidency since 2023. She has been a member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2019. She served as Minister of Small Business Development from 2019 to 2021 and as Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies between 2021 and 2023. She is a member of the African National Congress.

South Africa has one of the most extensive social welfare systems among developing countries in the world. In 2019, an estimated 18 million people received some form of social grant provided by the government.

The executive branch of the national government of South Africa is divided into the cabinet and the civil service, as in the Westminster system. The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) is one of the ministries of the South African government. It was established in 2014 to support small businesses and cooperatives. The current political head of the department is the Minister of Small Business Development, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams who replaced Khumbudzo Ntshavheni in 2021.

Abha Khetarpal is an Indian disability rights activist and counsellor based in New Delhi, India. She is the founder of Cross The Hurdles – a counselling/educational resource website and mobile application designed for people with disabilities.

Lorato Venus Blennies is a South African politician who has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Youth, Women, Disability, Communication and E-Government of the Northern Cape and a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature since October 2022. Blennies is a member of the African National Congress.
