The National Treasury is one of the departments of the South African government. The Treasury manages national economic policy, prepares the South African government's annual budget and manages the government's finances. Along with the South African Revenue Service and Statistics South Africa, the Treasury falls within the portfolio of the Minister of Finance. Throughout the course of President Jacob Zuma's second administration, the ministry has undergone several changes. Most notably, Nhlanhla Nene was suddenly dismissed on 9 December 2015, without explanation, and replaced with a relatively unknown parliamentary back-bencher from the ruling ANC's caucus, David 'Des' van Rooyen for a record-total of 3 days. He was, in turn, replaced by Pravin Gordhan after the President faced significant pressure from political and business groups over the move. On 30 March 2017 Jacob Zuma axed Pravin Gordhan and appointed Malusi Gigaba as a Finance Minister. Following Zuma's resignation, President Cyril Ramaphosa returned Nhlanhla Nene as Minister in his cabinet reshuffle on 26 February 2018.
The Department of Correctional Services is a department of the South African government. It is responsible for running South Africa's prison system. The department has about 34,000 staff and is responsible for the administration of 240 prisons, which accommodates about 189,748 inmates. The prisons include minimum, medium and maximum security facilities. The agency is headquartered in the West Block of the Poyntons Building in Pretoria.
The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services is the justice minister in the government of South Africa. He is the political head of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJCD), the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), and the Office of the Chief Justice. DoJCD is responsible for administrative support to the courts, oversight of the National Prosecuting Authority, the provision of legal services to departments of state, and law reform; and DSC is responsible for prisons and community corrections programmes.
The Ministry of Justice is an executive department of the New Zealand Government, responsible for the enforcement of the law and administration of justice within New Zealand. It provides advice and support to a number of ministers, including the Minister of Justice; the Minister for Courts; the Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations; the Minister Responsible for the Law Commission and the Attorney-General. Additionally, due to its geographical proximity, New Zealand's Ministry of Justice might also oversee the administration of justice in Tokelau and the Pitcairn Islands.
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) is the foreign ministry of the South African government. It is responsible for South Africa's relationships with foreign countries and international organizations, and runs South Africa's diplomatic missions. The department is headed by the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, currently Naledi Pandor.

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries was one of the departments of the South African government. It was responsible for overseeing and supporting South Africa's agricultural sector, as well as ensuring access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food by the country's population. The department fell under the responsibility of the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. In 2010 the minister was Senzeni Zokwana. In the 2014 national budget, the department received an appropriation of R6,178 billion rand, and had 5,924 employees as of 2010.
The Minister of Correctional Services was a minister in the government of South Africa, who was responsible for overseeing the Department of Correctional Services. The ministry existed between 1990 and 2014 – it was known before 1994 as the Ministry of Prisons – and has now been subsumed under the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services. Before 1990, correctional services were administered within the Ministry of Justice; a separate department and ministerial portfolio were established only when extensive prison reforms were announced in the early 1990s, under the cabinet of F.W. de Klerk. In July 2014, at the beginning of the second Zuma cabinet, the portfolios were merged again, creating the Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services, which now has a dedicated Deputy Minister of Correctional Services and which oversees the Department of Correctional Services.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is one of the departments of the South African government. It oversees primary and secondary education in South Africa. It was created in 2009 after the election of President Jacob Zuma, when the former Department of Education was divided into the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Higher Education and Training.
The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition is the department of the South African government with responsibility for commercial policy and industrial policy. The dti and its subsidiary agencies are involved in promoting economic development, Black Economic Empowerment, implementing commercial law, promoting and regulating international trade, and consumer protection.
The State Security Agency is the department of the South African government with overall responsibility for civilian intelligence operations. It was created in October 2009 to incorporate the formerly separate National Intelligence Agency, South African Secret Service, South African National Academy of Intelligence, National Communications Centre and COMSEC.
The Department of Transport is the department of the South African government concerned with transport. The political head of the department is the Minister of Transport, currently Fikile Mbalula; his deputy is Sindisiwe Chikunga.
The Department of Human Settlements is the department under the Ministry of Human Settlements, of the South African government responsible for housing and urban development. Its primary purpose is the implementation of the constitutional mandate that "everyone has the right to have access to adequate housing." It works in co-operation with the provincial governments, each of which has its own Human Settlements department, and with the municipalities.

The Department of Mineral Resources is a department of the national government of South Africa which is responsible for overseeing the mining industry of South Africa and the exploitation of the country's mineral resources. The department's origins lie the creation in the 1890s of the "Department van Mijnwezen" in the government of the Transvaal Republic. It has existed under its current name since 2009 when the Department of Minerals and Energy was divided and the Department of Energy was created. As of 2013 the political head of the department, the Minister of Mineral Resources, is Ngoako Ramatlhodi and his deputy is Godfrey Oliphant.
The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) is a department of the Government of South Africa created in June 2019 by the merger of the agriculture functions of the former Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform. The department has responsibility for agriculture, food safety, food security, land reform, topographic mapping, cadastral survey, the Deeds Offices, and spatial planning.
The Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG) is a department of the South African government, responsible for the relationship between the national government and the provincial governments and municipalities as well as disaster management. Along with the Department of Traditional Affairs, it is within the political responsibility of the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), who is assisted by a Deputy Minister of Local Government. As of August 2020 the minister is Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and her deputy is Parks Tau.

Along with the Department of Cooperative Governance, it is within the political responsibility of the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), who is assisted by a Deputy Minister of Traditional Affairs. As of August 2020 the minister is Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and her deputies are Obed Bapela and Thembi Nkadimeng.
The Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) is a department of the South African government that is responsible for the organisation and administration of the civil service. It is responsible for matters including labour relations of government employees, the provision of government IT services, and integrity in public administration. Political responsibility for the department is held by the Minister of Public Service and Administration, assisted by a deputy. As of August 2020 the minister is Senzo Mchunu and his deputy is Sindisiwe Chikunga. In the 2020 budget the department received an appropriation of R565.7 million. In the 2018/19 financial year it had 444 employees.
