Depha Masterpiece is a Malaysian rock musician, songwriter, arranger, and producer from Sarawak. He is best known as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the Bornean hard rock band, Masterpiece.
Raised in Sabah, Depha moved to Sarawak in the early 1990s, where he became active in the local hard rock scene and joined several bands, including Silent Killer and Black Monkey. In 2005, he joined Masterpiece, with whom he enjoyed great success and recognition in the late 2000s. Their first album, Merindang Ke Bintang has won numerous awards including the best produced debut album of 2009–2010 during the Dayak Music Awards 2010, in Sarawak. [1] Its full-length follow-ups, the second albums Rock & Roll (2013), were also widely successful; which respectively debuted at No. 1 on the Local Radio Station for months. [2] [3] He has since recorded another three studio albums with the band; Ngap Sayot (2014), Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai (2016) and followed by Ensera Paragon (2018).
Depha has worked as a composer and songwriter for other artists, including Hailey Robson, Melissa Francis and Watt Rock. He is one of the most influential rock vocalist & musicians in Sarawak. [4]
Depha was born in Kapit, Sarawak. He learned to play the guitar at age 13, and in the late 1990s was part of a rock cover band, Black Monkey which also included future Masterpiece's member Marcus. [5]
In 2005, Depha was recruited by Masterpiece-founder Willy Edwin and his brother Kennedy Edwin in Sibu and has since appeared on all released albums by the band, up through their latest album Ensera Paragon . [6] He has composed and produced almost all songs for Masterpiece except "Kumang Mimpi" from Merindang Ke Bintang which is co-written by the band's present keyboardist, Roslee Qadir. He was also responsible for the acoustic intro of "Ngap Sayot". [7] [8] [9] [10] [11]
Depha identifies Metallica as having been his main musical influence as a child, and has said they were the reason he wanted to play guitar. He was also a fan of 70s & 80s hard rock and heavy metal bands, including White Lion, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Queen, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Bon Jovi. Masterpiece occasionally played cover songs by these bands, including Queen's "I want to break free", Bon Jovi's "It's my life," and Metallica' "Enter Sandman". He has also cited Led Zeppelin, Nightwish, Kamelot, The Calling, Dewa 19, Nickelback and Avenged Sevenfold as important influences in his own songwriting style.

Masterpiece has been recognised by several Sarawak Music Awards ceremonies; the band has received twelve awards from several nominations. [12] Notable awards they have won include the Most Popular Group, voted by fans via SMS in 2010 Dayak Music Awards and best rock artiste in Dayak Music Awards on 2014. [13] [14] For their contribution and support to Sarawak music industry, they were invited to be the opening act for the Malaysian legendary rock band, Search (band) during their 30th anniversary Fenomena concert in Stadium Negeri Kuching Sarawak in December 2011. The Iban language is spoken by the Iban, one of the Dayak ethnic groups, who live in Brunei, the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan and in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It belongs to the Malayic subgroup, a Malayo-Polynesian branch of the Austronesian language family.
Estranged is a Malaysian alternative rock band that formed in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur in 2001. Currently comprising vocalist Rich Gimbang –who was known as a contestant in the 4th season of Akademi Fantasia–, lead guitarist Nor Hanafi and rhythm guitarist Din Hormatov, the band have released three full-length albums: In Hating Memory (2004), Remain Unknown (2008), Anugerah Hidup (2013) and an extended play (EP): Sepenuhnya Vol. 1 (2016). The album consists of ten tracks and titled Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai reflecting the lead single title from the album. It was released on March 21, 2016 through Panggau Buluh Pengerindu in Sarawak and Johor. The album receiving the 'Album of the Year' award at the 2016 Dayak Music Awards while the lead single "Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai" has won the 'Song of the Year' award at the 2016 ACSJ Music Awards.
Sarawak Music Awards is a music award held in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It is divided into three major events that are given the most attention by the fans, media, and record companies in Sarawak. "Kaban" is a single recorded by the iban rock band Masterpiece. The song was officially released on October 19, 2016 through YouTube via their independent label, Masterjam Studio. The song was released as a digital download single on the same day. In an interview with The Borneo Post on December 8, the band had announced that "Kaban" is the promotional single for their upcoming fifth studio album which planned to be released in 2017.

Willy Edwin, better known by his stage name Will Masterpiece, is a Malaysian rock musician best known as the co-founder and the primary lead guitarist of the Bornean hard rock band Masterpiece, with whom he achieved mainstream success in the late 2000s. Edwin co-founded Masterpiece, formerly known as Masterjam with his brother Kennedy Edwin in 2003, and has since released five studio albums with the band. Like the other left-handed guitarist, Edwin had the instrument strung upside-down with the high E on the top.
Kennedy Edwin is an Iban language Malaysian musician who serves as the rhythm and vocals for hard rock band Masterpiece. Along with his brother Willy Edwin, he is one of the founding members of Masterpiece, and has since released five studio albums with the band.
Watt Marcus, is a Malaysian rock musician best known as the bass guitarist of the Bornean hard rock band Masterpiece. Marcus joined Masterpiece in 2003 as the band's bassist, with whom he achieved mainstream success in the late 2000s.
Siku Dalam Seribu is a song written by Depha Masterpiece and recorded as a duet between him and singer, Allyssa Joanne or better known as Lyssa Jean. The lyrics essentially describes about a woman who learned to accept and open up to a new relationship after being hurt. She was told by the man, that she may not be his first love, but he promised her solemnly that he will love her unconditionally.
