Desmond Olumuyiwa Majekodunmi (born June 1950) is a Nigerian environmentalist. [1] [2] He is the chairman of the Lekki State Urban Forest and Animal Shelter Initiative (LUFASI), [3] [4] and a radio show host of the Green Hour on Nigeria Info 99.3 FM. [5] Majekodunmi is also an author, a singer and script-writer. [6] In addition to this, he works as a farmer, multi-media engineer/producer, film maker and musician. [7] [8] [9]
He has received many awards in recognition of his work on agriculture and the environment. He has won the Nigerian Silverbird TV "Man of the Year" and DW German TV network "Environment Hero". [10] His efforts to get more trees planted were acknowledged with an award from the Ministry of Environment. [7] He is a certified experimental extension farmer for International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan, and operates Majekodunmi Agricultural Project (MAP) - an agro forestry based conservation farm in Lagos. [11] [12] The only agro forestry based conservation farm in Nigeria’s economic centre, a portion of which has been registered as an Urban Forest Park. [13]
He describes the climatic changes, rain, storm, and hurricanes in the world as what experts have predicted and what we are now seeing it. In his words, it goes on and on and all we can do is support them. [4]
He is the son of the First Republic federal minister, Chief Moses Majekodunmi, and his wife - Nora Majekodunmi, the founder of Corona Schools. [9]
He recently received an award from Paschal Dozie after giving a lecture on sustainable development and has received several other awards regarding climate change and environmental conservation. [14] [ citation needed ]
Majekodunmi serves as the current chairman of the Awareness and Fund Raising committee of the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF), Lagos, [15] and is a conservation farming [15] practitioner.
Mr. Majekodunmi is the proprietor and operator of the Majekodunmi Agricultural Projects in Lagos, the only agroforestry-based conservation farm in Nigeria's economic hub, and a certified experimental extension farmer for the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) Ibadan. A portion of the farm has been registered as an Urban Forest Park. He frequently gives lectures on ecosystem, conservation, and adaptation and mitigation of climate change. He also hosts the weekly radio show "Environment Report" on Nigeria Info 99.3 FM radio station. Through his business, Desco Tourism Developments, he advises various state governments on tourism development. He is also an author, screenwriter, singer, and documentary filmmaker. The German Green party just hired him to make a movie about climate change change in Nigeria. [16]

The University of Lagos, popularly known as UNILAG, is a public research university located in Lagos, Nigeria and was founded in 1962. Bayelsa is a state in the South South region of Nigeria, located in the core of the Niger Delta. Bayelsa State was created in 1996 and was carved out from Rivers State, making it one of the newest states in the federation. The capital, Yenagoa, is susceptible to high risk of annual flooding. It shares a boundary with Rivers State to the east and Delta State to the north across the Niger River for 17 km and the Forçados River for 198 km, with the waters of the Atlantic Ocean dominating its southern borders. Cocoa production is important to the economy of Nigeria. Cocoa is the leading agricultural export of the country and Nigeria is currently the world's fourth largest producer of cocoa, after Ivory Coast, Indonesia and Ghana, and the third largest exporter, after Ivory Coast and Ghana. The Nigerian lowland forests, also known as the Nigerian rainforest, are tropical moist forest ecoregion in southwestern Nigeria and southeastern Benin. The ecoregion is densely populated and home to several large cities, including Lagos, Ibadan, and Benin City. They are considered one of the most biodiverse habitats in the country and are home to a wide range of plant and animal species. There is still significant tree cover, but the remaining enclaves of forest are increasingly fragmented. Though many areas are now used for timber, which provides business for timber traders. The ecoregion is wetter along the coast and drier inland, resulting in bands of vegetation zones that run parallel to the coast for the 400 km length of the region.
