Dex Lee (born 16 May 1993) is an English actor, known for his role as Bear Sylvester on the BBC soap opera Doctors . Before he was cast in Doctors, he appeared in numerous professional stage productions and worked part-time as a dance teacher.
Lee was born on 16 May 1993 in Edmonton, London. [1] Lee has a younger sister, Miriam-Teak Lee, as well as four brothers. [2] Alongside his sister, he attended The Latymer School, Morgan Aslanoff School of Dance and Arts Educational School with. [3] [4] The pair were duet partners and competed in dance competitions together. [3] After graduating from ArtsEd in 2014, Lee worked as a dance teacher in Chiswick. [5]
From 2012 to 2013, Lee appeared as part of the dance ensemble in a production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs . [5] In 2014, Lee made his acting debut in a production of In The Heights as Jose at the Southwark Playhouse. [6] After his 2014 role in The Scottsboro Boys on the West End, he performed for the London Cast Album, including solos in Alabama Ladies and the reprise as his secondary role, Victoria Price. In 2016, Lee starred in Father Comes Home from the Wars. [7] Steph Watkins of A Younger Theatre wrote: "Odyssey the dog, played by Dex Lee, is a highlight from the performance. Lee absolutely embodies the characteristics of a dog without making it overly literal. His vocal work is outstanding, highlighting certain words to reflect aspects and emotional responses of a dog without impersonating, which works impeccably. He carefully displays the naivety, purity and innocence of a dog whilst narrating incidents that take place without action; it is an effective story-telling tool as well as being one of the most memorable parts of the show due to how Lee handles the text." In 2017, he appeared in the West End production of The Wild Party as Jackie. [8] [9] [10] Bethany Davidson of A Younger Theatre described his performance as "insatiable, oozing confidence whilst he lolls and rolls around the room". [10] Lee continued to make appearances in stage productions until 2019, when he stated he wanted to make television appearances. [9] Subsequently, he was cast in the BBC soap opera Doctors in 2019. [11] Lee began filming on Doctors on 26 June 2019, [12] with his first on-screen appearance as Bear Sylvester airing on 18 November 2019. [13]

Doctors is a British medical soap opera, first broadcast on BBC One on 26 March 2000. Filmed in Birmingham and set in the fictional West Midlands town of Letherbridge, the soap follows the lives of the staff of both an NHS doctor's surgery and a university campus surgery, as well as the lives of their families and friends. Initially, only 41 episodes of the programme were ordered, but due to the positive reception, the BBC ordered it as a continuing soap opera. Doctors was filmed at the Pebble Mill Studios until 2004; production then relocated to the BBC Drama Village, where it will film until 2024. Episodes are filmed three months prior to transmission. The soap is typically broadcast on weekdays at 1:45 pm on BBC One, as well as having classic episodes broadcast on Drama. It takes three annual transmission breaks across the year: at Easter, during the summer and at Christmas.

"Can You Hear Me?" is an episode of the British television soap opera Doctors, broadcast on BBC One on 12 June 2020. It marks the first episode in soap opera history to be filmed solely using mobile devices, and was self-shot by cast members from their homes as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down production of Doctors. The episode centres around the colleagues of the fictional Mill Health Centre and St Phils hospital dealing with lockdown, and features appearances from relatives of the characters. The scenes take place after the colleagues have been to work, where they discuss the professional and personal impacts of the pandemic on their lives via video chat.
