Power metal is a subgenre of heavy metal combining characteristics of traditional heavy metal with speed metal, often within a symphonic context. Generally, power metal is characterized by a faster, lighter, and more uplifting sound, in contrast with the heaviness and dissonance prevalent in, for example, extreme metal. Power metal bands usually have anthem-like songs with fantasy-based subject matter and strong choruses, thus creating a theatrical, dramatic and emotionally "powerful" sound.
Marduk is a Swedish black metal band formed in Norrköping in 1990. The band released their debut full-length album, Dark Endless, in 1992 on No Fashion Records. Their name is derived from the Ancient Babylonian deity, Marduk.

Christopher Alan Broderick is an American musician, best known as a former guitarist of the heavy metal band Megadeth. He is also formerly the lead guitarist and keyboardist for Jag Panzer, appearing on four of Jag Panzer's albums The Age of Mastery, Thane to the Throne, Mechanized Warfare and Casting the Stones before moving on to Megadeth, replacing Glen Drover. Before joining Megadeth and while still in Jag Panzer, he was also a touring guitarist for Nevermore between 2001 and 2003 and then again between 2006 and 2007. He is now the lead guitarist for Act of Defiance, which he formed with fellow ex-Megadeth bandmate Shawn Drover. Broderick also joined In Flames in 2019 as a touring guitarist, before becoming the permanent rhythm guitarist in 2022.
Nocturnus, currently Nocturnus AD, is an American death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida, in 1987 by the drummer/vocalist Mike Browning. They were known for their science-fiction themed lyrics and use of keyboards, both of which were virtually unknown in extreme metal at the time. The 1990 debut from the band is considered by some to be the first progressive death metal album.
RobertRock is an American heavy metal singer who is best known as the longtime frontman of Impellitteri, a position he has held from 1987 to 1988, 1992 to 2000, and now from 2008 to the present day. Rock has also released five albums as a solo artist, and performed with a number of other notable artists, including M.A.R.S., Joshua, Tobias Sammet, Axel Rudi Pell and Warrior.

It comprises re-recordings of songs from the band's previous studio releases: the Jag Panzer EP (1983), Ample Destruction (1984), and Dissident Alliance (1994), two songs previously released on compilations, as well as the Shadow Thief demo and the album Chain of Command, both of which were previously unreleased at the time of the album's release. The album title comes from a line from the song "Licensed to Kill", which was originally released on Ample Destruction and was re-recorded for the album.

The band returns to a more epic power metal feel on this album, as opposed to the thrash influence on Dissident Alliance.
Ample Destruction is the first studio album released by American power metal band Jag Panzer, released in 1984. Originally released on Azra Records, a small independent label, it received poor marketing from the label, and thus became only an underground hit amongst the metal community, and was bootlegged repeatedly.
Jörg Fischer is a German guitar player, primarily known for his work with the German band Accept. He joined the band at the end of the recording sessions for their self-titled debut and plays on the albums I'm a Rebel and Breaker until leaving before recording began for the fourth album Restless and Wild. After the recording of Balls to the Wall was completed he was asked to rejoin the band. Fischer appears on the albums Metal Heart and Russian Roulette. By this time his role had diminished mainly to rhythm guitarist, although he is featured as lead guitarist on the songs "Living for Tonite", "Wrong Is Right', "Aiming High", "Another Second to Be" and "Lay Down the Law". Fischer left the band again around 1988.

It is a tribute album to Ronnie James Dio, featuring covers of several songs he had sung during his time with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his own band Dio. The covers done on this tribute album were recorded by mostly power metal bands.
Chain of Command is the eighth studio album by the American power metal band Jag Panzer. The album was recorded in 1987 and went unreleased at the time, yet bootlegged since 1988. It was finally released by Century Media for the first time, with "new" cover art and a remaster job, on June 21, 2004. The label released only 5,000 copies.

Two weeks after its release, The Scourge of the Light placed at No. 117 on the Billboard New Artist chart, making the album Jag Panzer's most successful to date.
