Maywood is a village in Proviso Township, Cook County, Illinois, United States in the Chicago metropolitan area. It was founded on April 6, 1869, and organized October 22, 1881. The population was 23,512 at the 2020 United States Census.
Michael Howard Finley is an American former professional basketball player who is the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played 15 seasons in the NBA, predominantly with the Mavericks, but also for the Phoenix Suns, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Boston Celtics. He was a two-time NBA All-Star and won an NBA championship with the Spurs in 2007.

Robert Allen McAdoo Jr. is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he was a five-time NBA All-Star and named the NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1975. He won two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers during their Showtime era in the 1980s. In 2000, McAdoo was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021.

Daniel "Dee" Brown is an American former professional basketball player and current college coach. Brown played at the University of Illinois from 2002 to 2006, receiving numerous awards and accolades, including the 2005 Sporting News National Player of the Year. Brown was selected in the second round of the 2006 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. Brown played for several international basketball teams from 2007 to 2015.
Joliet Catholic Academy is a coed Catholic high school in Joliet, Illinois. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliet. One of the oldest Catholic high schools in the Chicago area, Joliet Catholic is perhaps best known for its prowess in football. Since the advent of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state football playoffs in 1974, JCA has won more state football titles than any other team in the state, with 15 as of 11/26/2021.
Proviso East High School is a public secondary school in Maywood, Illinois which serves the educational needs of Maywood and three other villages within Proviso Township, Cook County, Illinois: Broadview, Forest Park and Melrose Park. It is the original campus of Proviso Township High Schools District 209. Prior to being split into East and Proviso West High School in 1958, East was known as Proviso Township High School. The school is located at the intersection of Madison Street and First Avenue.
Richard Roby is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Shinshu Brave Warriors of the Japanese B.League. He attended high school at Lawrence Academy at Groton, Massachusetts. Roby attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and played for the Buffaloes from 2004 to 2008. He averaged 17 points and 5.5 rebounds during his career for the Buffaloes. He graduated as Colorado's all-time leading scorer, doing so in his final collegiate game.
Proviso West High School (PWHS) is a public high school located in Hillside, Illinois, United States. It is a part of Proviso Township High Schools District 209, and was opened in 1958. Its sister schools are Proviso East High School and Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy.
Deon La velle Thomas is an American-Israeli former basketball player. As a high school player, he led his team to the Chicago Public League title, and was named Illinois Mr. Basketball. As a college player at the University of Illinois, he finished his career as the all-time leading scorer in Fighting Illini history. Selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the 28th selection of the 1994 NBA draft, he opted to play professional basketball in Europe and Israel.

Shaun Garin Vandiver is a retired American college and professional basketball player and currently an assistant basketball coach for the University of Wyoming. Vandiver served as the head basketball coach at Emporia State University from 2011 to 2018. Born in Chicago, the Bolingbrook, Illinois native was selected 25th overall in the 1991 NBA draft, from Hutchinson Community College and the University of Colorado Boulder. A 6'10" and 240 lb (109 kg) power forward was also an outstanding basketball player in the European leagues in Italy and Spain.
Reginald Jordan is an American former professional basketball player and coach. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he attended Proviso East High School, in Maywood, Illinois. The 6'4" and 195 lb (88 kg) guard went to Southwestern Junior College, and then to New Mexico State University. Jordan was never drafted by an NBA team but played in the Continental Basketball Association and won 2 championships with the Yakima Sun Kings and the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Jordan also played in Greece top league for 2 seasons 1994-95, 2002. Jordan also managed to play in 6 NBA seasons from 1993 to 1994 and from 1996 to 2000. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Washington Wizards. In the CBA, he also played for the Grand Rapids Hoops and Rockford Lightning.
Sherell Ford is an American former professional basketball player. A 6'7" forward from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Ford was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in the first round of the 1995 NBA draft and signed a three-year $1.67 million contract. However, Ford played only one NBA season before being released by the team. In his brief NBA career, he played in 28 games and scored a total of 90 points. His final NBA game was played on April 21, 1996, in a 99–88 loss to the Denver Nuggets where he played for 3 minutes and his only stat was 1 steal.
